Scopely seeks a VP, Corporate Brand & Communications with 10+ years of experience in communications, particularly in the video game, media, entertainment, or consumer tech space. This role requires strong strategic thinking, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to manage both internal and external communications, including crisis communication. Experience working with executive levels and a passion for creating great experiences are essential.

Description

Scopely is looking for a Vice President, Corporate Brand & Communications to join our Corporate Brand & Communications team in our Culver City Hub on a hybrid basis.

At Scopely, we care deeply about what we do and want to inspire play, every day - whether in our work environments alongside our talented colleagues, or through our deep connections with our communities of players. We are a global team of game lovers who are developing, publishing and innovating the mobile games industry, connecting millions of people around the world daily.

The Scopely Corporate Brand & Communications team oversees:
Corporate Comms (B2B editorial, media relations, public affairs/crisis management, thought-leadership, executive engagement, awards (e.g., games, company, execs), etc.)
Consumer Publicity (B2C editorial, media relations, talent/influencers, community speaking, etc.)
Digital Platforms (Scopely social channels, corporate website, third-party platforms, original content, etc.)
The Scopely Brand (brand guidelines, collateral, environmental design, video production, brand marketing, sponsorship, etc.)
Internal Comms (global all-hands, intranet, comms channels, announcements, executive script writing, program rollouts, organizational changes, DEI partner, company presentations, etc.)

What You Will Do
The leader will help develop, manage, implement, and execute strategic communications efforts for the Scopely brand/business, our executives/employees, our products (games, tech platform, etc), and our players. This individual will work closely with both internal leadership and external partners, and will be a member of our Scopely Leadership team.

  • Think extremely creatively on how to gain editorial earned and owned coverage for “tough to place” stories, updates, narratives and take those ideas to execution.
    • Expand the company's narrative through owned platforms via written and video content -- driving a content strategy that ensures the creation of compelling, on-brand content for various channels, including social media, blogs, and other platforms.
  • Execute compelling writing for awards submissions, thought-leadership pieces, and more -- creating highly differentiated content, translating concepts into clear, interesting stories.
  • Monitor content performance and adjust strategies as needed; monitor and measure brand performance and reputation; ensure brand consistency across all internal and external communications and touchpoints.
  • Manage crisis communication and issues management as needed (both internal and external).
  • Develop and maintain relationships with media outlets and key industry influencers.
  • Work collaboratively with PR agencies to drive results.
  • Connect our culture tenets/values to our corporate narrative to celebrate “One Scopely.”
  • Drive/manage team budget effectively, ensuring cost control and optimal resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align communications with business objectives and values.
  • People Management: To ensure deep understanding of the business and execution needs are met, team leadership will be a future state. At that time, additional responsibilities will include recruiting, mentoring, and leading a high-performing team of professionals.

What We’re Looking For
  •  10+ years of communications experience -- knowledge of the video game, media, entertainment and/or consumer tech space -- with a proven track record highlighted by specific examples of impact. Agency experience is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree; Master's degree welcomed.
  • An understanding of tech and entertainment trends, games fan a plus.
  • Intellectual curiosity to learn the business, evolving industry, and new ways of communicating.
  • Highly proactive – able to create “reasons to write” for press/thought leadership without having an announcement as a hook.
  • Innovative and nimble – able to execute without extended resources.
  • Deep sense of accountability and responsibility for executing in an ambiguous environment; ability to multitask and stay on top of multiple projects at once.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills including editing and copywriting – preferably experience scripting executives.
  • Experience managing global media relations and internal and crisis communications.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong internal and external relationships at all levels, direct experience working with a range of executive levels.
  • Excellent collaborator who can gain consensus and execute solution-driven results; this work requires deep collaboration with a significant number of functions and leaders across the company.
  • Passion for creating great experiences and creating/pitching new ideas to the team.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, action-oriented, entrepreneurial environment, while being an empathetic leader.
  • Strong strategic thinking, graceful communicator, proactive, and an innovative problem solver with a big picture mentality.
  • A shepherd of our culture tenets: Play to win; Care deeply; Ignite passion, earn loyalty; Iterate to greatness; Embrace the adventure.

For candidates in CA, CO, NJ, NY and WA, the annual salary range is $225,000 - $265,000, plus equity, bonus and benefits including healthcare benefits, retirement benefits, pet insurance, paid holidays, paid Scopely free days, and unlimited paid time-off.
