Job Description

The Church & Volunteer Teams Mobilizer will work with the Church & Volunteer Engagement team to educate, build partnerships, and mobilize churches to support refugees and immigrants in Chicago. Responsibilities include coordinating the Good Neighbor Team program and Health Advocate volunteers, recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers, communicating with various teams to ensure effective partnerships, stewarding church partnerships, and maintaining accurate records. This role involves presenting at church and community events and requires a strong commitment to the mission and values of World Relief.
Must have:
  • Mature Christian faith and commitment to World Relief's mission.
  • Ability to work in cross-cultural settings and flexibility in schedule.
  • Biblical knowledge and understanding of scriptural basis for the Church.
  • Ability to manage multiple demands and deadlines with flexibility.
  • Basic computer skills, current driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
Good to have:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Flexibility and ability to learn quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish language preferred.
  • Volunteer or program management experience preferred.

Since then, for 80 years, across 100 countries, World Relief has partnered with local churches and communities to build a world where families thrive and communities flourish. Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy. This position is reliant upon funding and may be subject to modification or termination based on resource availability. POSITION SUMMARY: World Relief Chicagoland seeks a Church and Volunteer Teams Mobilizer to join the Church & Volunteer Engagement team as they work to educate, build partnerships with, and mobilize churches into action through giving, serving, praying, and advocating for refugees and immigrants in Chicago. By working closely with the Church and Volunteer Engagement team, this position will support the common goal of welcoming refugees and immigrants and supporting their long-term journey to belonging through partnership with the local church and community.  ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee and coordinate the Good Neighbor Team (GNT) program (team-based volunteerism) and the Health Advocate volunteers in the Chicago office with refugee and asylum seeker families.
  • Recruit, screen, train, match, supervise, support, retain, and appreciate Good Neighbor Teams and Health advocate volunteers. Maintain consistent communication with GNT leaders and volunteers throughout service term.
  • Communicate consistently with World Relief case management, employment, and education teams to gather information and needs of families to ensure GNTs and Health Advocates are partnering with families in a helpful manner, providing correction to volunteers as needed.
  • Facilitate communication between World Relief Chicago staff, volunteers, and church partners for effective partnership.
  • Participate, help plan, and invite volunteers and church contacts to volunteer appreciation and church partner events convened by World Relief, as well as facilitate scheduled check-ins and debriefs with volunteers and GNTs.
  • Steward a portfolio of churches to deepen their partnership with World Relief. Set and meet goals toward volunteer engagement, giving, prayer and advocacy, contributing to the overall team goals in these partnership areas. 
  • Maintain accurate records each month of volunteer, GNT, and church information, including service hours, activities, events and communications, using the World Relief databases. 
  • Contribute to and participate with the Church Mobilization Team in developing and implementing plans for deepening engagement of churches in partnership with World Relief. 
  • Joining with the rest of the Church and Volunteer Engagement team, present about the work of World Relief at church and community activities and train volunteers and GNTs including evenings, weekends, and some Sunday mornings (10-20 times/year, fewer than 10 of those are Sunday morning commitments). 
  • Explore ways for churches to partner together in underrepresented communities to expand and grow both ministries. 
  • Regularly attending church networks to find ways to maintain/grow relationships with churches and World Relief while multiplying time/impact. 
  • Other related tasks as assigned. 
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Mature and personal Christian faith
  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
  • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Evangelicals For the Health of The Nation document
  • Demonstrated ability to work sensitively and effectively in cross-cultural settings 
  • Flexibility in schedule availability required (meetings, trainings, Sunday presentations with churches and volunteers will often take place during evenings and weekends as outlined above).
  • Biblical knowledge and understanding of scriptural basis for the Church’s heart for immigrants
  • Proven sensitivity to strengths and needs of churches, and ability to network within the community.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple demands and deadlines with flexibility
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Dynamics database)
  • Current driver’s license and access to a vehicle required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred 
  • Flexibility and the ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced work environment 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish language preferred
  • Volunteer or program management experience preferred
  • Proven experience to provide correction and guidance to groups tactfully
