Job Description

As a Data Center Technician II at Google, you will install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain server hardware and software (including Google's Linux cluster). Responsibilities include configuring network components (routers, switches, etc.), participating in or leading project teams on installations, developing contingency plans, and performing manual rack installations. You'll also lead troubleshooting for escalated technical issues and contribute to projects deploying and supporting data center infrastructure. The role involves working with state-of-the-art technology and requires experience with operating systems, networking protocols, and server hardware. Problem-solving skills and collaboration are essential.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Experience with operating systems and networking protocols
Experience with computer and server hardware troubleshooting
Installation, configuration, testing, and maintenance of hardware and software
Troubleshooting and resolving escalated technical issues
Leading and contributing to data center infrastructure projects

Good to have:

Experience in maintenance and monitoring of server systems
Data center or network operation center experience
Linux operating systems experience
Project management and leadership experience
Collaboration and teamwork skills

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
Experience with operating systems and networking protocols.
Experience with computer hardware and server hardware or troubleshooting/diagnosing.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience in maintenance and monitoring of server systems.
Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.
Experience with Linux operating systems.
Experience in project management and leadership.
Ability to collaborate and partner with teams to overcome issues.

Google isn't just a software company. The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As an Operations Technician, you'll install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (like servers and its components) and server software (like Google's Linux cluster). You'll also take on the configuration of more complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches and networking protocols. You'll participate in or lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans. A typical day involves manual movement and installation of racks, and while it can sometimes be physically demanding, you are excited to work with infrastructure that is at the cutting-edge of computer technology.

As a Data Center Technician, you will install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (e.g., servers and its components) and server software (e.g., Google's Linux cluster). You will work on the configuration of components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols. You will also participate or lead project teams on installations and develop project contingency plans. In addition, you will be involved in the manual movement and installation of racks.

Lead troubleshooting and resolve escalated technical issues regarding affected equipment.
Contribute to and lead efforts/projects in the deployment, maintenance, and support of data center infrastructure.
Help test and troubleshoot server hardware components and designs.
Configure and troubleshoot OS-related issues on server.
