The Director of Financial Discovery at Microsoft will lead the Financial Discovery program within the Litigation team. This role requires navigating a complex financial ecosystem, collaborating with stakeholders across legal, finance, and data engineering, and prioritizing team requirements in a dynamic environment. Responsibilities include people management, establishing and improving financial fact discovery processes for litigation, cross-functional collaboration, process oversight, providing expert testimony, data navigation and validation, communication and reporting, and data analytics. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills, along with extensive experience in Microsoft's financial systems and litigation discovery processes.

Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Director of Financial Discovery to join our Litigation team in the Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) Group to develop and lead the Financial Discovery program. The candidate should be a proven leader who can (1) successfully navigate our large and complex financial ecosystem; (2) effectively collaborate with stakeholders within and outside of Microsoft from various disciplines such as legal, finance, and data engineering; and (3) strategically prioritize team requirements in a constantly evolving environment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance or related field AND 8+ years work experience in program management, process management, process improvement, Operations, Finance or related field 
    • OR equivalent experience 
  • 6+ years of management (e.g., people, project, process, vendor, change) experience 
  • 8+ years of experience with Microsoft’s financial processes and reporting tehnologies & systems, such as MS Sales, Mercury, Azure Health, Modern Work, Apps and Game Purchase Cube, etc. 
  • 8+ years of experience with civil litigation discovery processes 
  •  

 Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance or related field AND 10+ years program management experience, process management, process improvement 
    • OR related field AND 12+ years experience in program management, process management, process improvement 
  • 8+ years of people management experience 
  • Proficient analytical and technical skills 
  • Meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills 
  • Proficient comunication skills and executive presence, with proven effectiveness in cross-team collaboration 

 

Business Program Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $273,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $299,400 per year.

  • Practice Leadership: Establish, monitor, and continuously improve the multidisciplinary process of financial fact discovery for complex litigation and regulatory matters. Oversee multiple team members, ensuring the quality of their output, defining processes, and motivating them to achieve more. 

 

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build and maintain relationships with internal/external legal and finance teams, and develop/sustain expertise on internal financial systems to facilitate efficient, accurate, and timely data requests. Work with cross-functional stakeholders to design programs from initiation to delivery, define and track success criteria, and maintain the rhythm of business during execution. 

 

  • Process Oversight: Develop and standardize evergreen processes for data extraction, strategically evolving them as new technologies and developments arise. Oversee teams performing program landscape analysis, examining business trends, and identifying opportunities for program development. 

 

  • Financial Testimony: Provide fact witness testimony on behalf of Microsoft regarding financial data. 

 

  • Data Navigation and Validation: Lead your team in navigating Microsoft’s financial systems to identify responsive data, vet its accuracy, and assess for anomalies to comply with discovery requests and other legal obligations. 

 

  • Communication and Reporting: Ensure teams communicate program status and risks to stakeholders, hold them accountable to schedules, and promote the program to gain buy-in and expand impact.

 

  • Data Analytics and Insights: Oversee teams conducting cost-benefit analyses, evaluating success metrics, and optimizing the use of data analytics to derive insights and identify risks and opportunities.
