The Director, Product Design for ESPN Fantasy and Bets will lead the fan experience across mobile, app, and web platforms. Responsibilities include managing a team of designers, driving the end-to-end design process (concept to user testing), advocating for user needs, and communicating design concepts to stakeholders. The role involves working in a 0-to-1 product environment, creating and shipping products at scale for global sports fans, and partnering with various teams to deliver cohesive and inclusive user experiences. This is a leadership position requiring strong design and management skills within a fast-paced, innovative environment.

What You Will Do

As Director, you’ll be responsible for fan experience across mobile, app and web platforms for ESPN Fantasy and ESPN Bet.  You’ll further our mission of delivering brand-specific consumer experiences, building cohesive user journeys within a product family, partnering across Product, Engineering and other business partners, and working with Design team members directing rapid visual concepts, producing high fidelity visual design. We are a multi-disciplinary design team where you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with many design groups and specialties to create innovative products that people love to use.

  • Manage in a true 0-to-1 product environment. Ideate, create, grow, and ship products, at scale for sports fans globally.

  • Provide day-to-day design leadership that builds a shared understanding of the complete user-centric intersection of design, content, business, and engineering.

  • Be a design activator, working to deliver a platform vision and strategy that balances revolutionary framework projects along with a plan for evolutionary, iterative updates to realize a more extensive vision.

  • Partner with a variety of teams, inspiring confidence that your team will deliver compelling user experiences that are cohesive, inclusive, and well informed on time.

  • Lead a team of product designers, providing mentorship, guidance, and support to foster their growth and development.

  • Drive the end-to-end design process, from concept ideation and wireframing to high-fidelity prototyping and user testing, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience across all platforms.

  • Advocate for the needs and preferences of our diverse user base data-driven insights to inform design decisions.

  • Effectively communicate design concepts, rationale, and trade-offs to stakeholders at all levels, fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Sports enthusiast

  • 12+ years of Design/Creative experiences, including 5+ years of management experience.

  • Have managed, lead, and inspired teams of designers.

  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of projects demonstrating your design process, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have resource planned and staffed projects and groups based on the available skills to deliver excellent design solutions on time.

  • Possess a broad and comprehensive understanding of different systems, theories, and practices of design leadership.

  • Identified and set platform strategies, envisioned complex user interactions, and inspired teams to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

  • Can communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.

Education

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience required.

  • This role is also available in Seattle, WA, New York, NY and Bristol, CT


The hiring range for this position in California is $180,700 to $242,300 per year and in New York is $189,300 to $253,800 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
