About the job:
As an Engineering Manager for the Indexing Engine within Google's Core Data team, you'll be responsible for leading a team of software engineers to execute roadmaps and drive impact across Google Search and other information retrieval products. You'll collaborate with partner teams to define technical direction, scope projects, and ensure alignment across the organization. Your leadership will foster a supportive and inclusive work environment, providing mentorship to develop and empower your team members. You'll manage technical issues, decision-making processes, and project management to optimize team performance and deliver impactful results. You'll also engage with clients across various product areas (Web, Media, Shopping) to support their strategic investments.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 8 years of software development experience
  • 5 years of technical leadership experience
  • 5 years of people management experience
  • Experience with programming languages (Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript)
Good to have:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • 5 years of experience in a changing organization

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
  • 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 5 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, a technical related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience working in a changing organization.

These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of SWEs to drive and execute both roadmaps and establish their impact on google search and other information retrieval products.
  • Collaborate with the Indexing Engine team and other partner teams to define the technical direction, scope, build alignment, and lead executions of projects.
  • Build a supportive and inclusive work environment for the team, and provide ongoing mentorship to develop and empower engineers. 
  • Manage technical issues, decision making, and project management to help engineers achieve impact.
  • Collaborate with experimentation clients such as Web, Media, Shopping, to support customers’ strategic investment.
