As a Game Programmer at The Gang Asia, you'll develop and update Roblox games, working collaboratively in small teams. You'll enjoy creative freedom, contributing to all aspects of game development, from UI and gameplay logic to server-side code. Responsibilities include creating user-friendly and visually appealing Roblox games, implementing new features, optimizing existing ones, and improving the development process. Staying current with Roblox development trends is key. The role is fully remote, based in Malaysia or Indonesia, with optional hybrid work in Selangor/Johor.
Must have:
  • Experience with C-family or LUA programming
  • Solid understanding of game programming theory
  • Roblox game development experience preferred
  • Proficiency in English
  • Located in Malaysia or Indonesia
Good to have:
  • Game publication experience (Play Store, App Store, Steam)
  • Higher vocational education in game development or software engineering
  • Malay or Mandarin language skills

About the position

As the Game Programmer, you will play a key role in the continued growth of our Malaysian studio The Gang Asia (formerly known as Common Extract). You will play a key role in developing new updates to our existing games as well as developing new games on the Roblox Platform. Working on the Roblox Platform and in a small team for each game will give you a lot of creative freedom, this means that you will be able to define the player experience a lot and also you will get to work on every part of the game, from UI-code and gameplay logic to server code.

Starting date: Now, permanent contract after 6 months probationary period

Reporting to: Managing Director, Malaysia

Location: Malaysia or Indonesia, working 100% remote from home, company time zone MYT. Option for hybrid/in-office work at our Selangor/Johor office. Discord and Slack are your best friends!

Work time: Full time - 40 hours a week

Responsibilities

  • Develop user-friendly and visually appealing Roblox Game using Roblox Studio

  • Collaborate with the game development team to build and implement new features, and optimize existing ones

  • Ensure the game application’s design and functionality align with our business goals and technical requirements

  • Continuously improve the game development process and share your knowledge with the rest of the team

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest roblox game development trends and technologies


Who you are

  • Experience with programming in the C-family (Unity Engine/Unreal Engine) and/or LUA (Roblox Studio)

  • Solid understanding on game programming and theory

  • Experience in Roblox game development, preferred

  • Proven game publication on platforms like Play Store, Appstore, Steam, or others, is a plus

  • Finished higher vocational education in professional game development and/or other bachelor degree or higher within software engineering

  • Must be proficient in English, both written and spoken. Malay or Mandarin are a plus, but not required as our working language is English

  • Love for games

  • Located in Malaysia or Indonesia
