Head of Business Integration - APMT Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A)
APM terminals has embarked on an exciting new growth strategy. Based on its vast experience and internationally recognized processes we aim to have a best-in-class implementation setup through standardized and optimized clear processes whilst managing an agile team to enable delivery. This setup will enable successful evaluation and delivery of various types of projects including large new capital investments, integration of mergers and acquisitions and expansions of existing facilities.
Our ability to deliver projects firstly to our business needs as well as within their set parameters of HSSE, budget, scope, time, quality in a total integrated manner, delivers real value to the company. We build on and aim to continuously improve our project management framework to increase the incremental value delivered to the APM Terminals business.
The key purpose of this position is to lead (directly and functionally) all business integration and implementation activities for global Business Implementation organisation from due diligence to full integration phase.
This role is responsible for maintaining and improving the overall processes, tools and standards regarding how we integrate and implement businesses in new terminals and to actively drive, support and govern deployment of this standards. Ensure we transparently and proactively manage all risks and opportunities associated to projects. Head of Business Integration will develop and own APM Terminals framework of Business Integration for new acquisitions and Business Implementation for greenfield projects.
This role requires a strategic thinker with deep expertise in M&A, change management, project management, and business operations. The individual will work closely with leadership teams of the terminal and HQ/Region, functional teams, and external stakeholders to ensure that all aspects of the acquisition align with the company’s strategic goals, and that value creation is maximized post-acquisition.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Integration Leadership:
- Develop and refine the Business Integration framework, tools, standards, and methodologies for APM Terminals.
- Lead the due diligence and business case development for potential acquisitions and greenfield projects.
- Establish and implement integration strategies, including detailed integration plans covering cost, schedule, risks, and stakeholder engagement.
- Lead cross-functional teams, including Finance, HR, IT, Operations, and Legal, to ensure successful integration and alignment with strategic objectives.
Project Management and Execution:
- Define integration milestones and KPIs to track progress and success, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.
- Provide leadership and coordination for integration and implementation teams, deploying resources as needed to support project requirements.
- Drive the development of detailed integration plans and ensure the integration of business processes, systems, and technologies with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
Strategic Development and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with Maersk M&A teams to ensure alignment and synergy in integration efforts.
- Work closely with Business Implementation leadership to shape and drive the global BIM strategy and initiatives.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all integration-related matters, ensuring clear and consistent communication with senior executives, board members, and external advisors.
- Develop and deliver integration progress reports to leadership and the board of directors.
Risk and Opportunity Management:
- Maintain forward-looking risk registers and develop mitigation strategies for identified risks across all projects.
- Identify and address integration issues promptly to minimize impact on business operations.
- Identify opportunities for value creation and operational efficiencies post-acquisition.
Operational Excellence and Change Management:
- Implement best-in-class integration practices and ensure they are consistently deployed across all projects.
- Work closely with the People Function to manage cultural integration, organizational alignment, and talent retention.
- Pioneer new techniques for improved integration and project management, maintaining high standards of operational excellence.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field. An MBA or equivalent advanced degree is preferred.
Experience:
- Extensive experience in M&A with a focus on business integration and extensive project management experience.
- Proven track record of leading large, complex integration projects in a multinational environment.
- Strong experience managing cross-functional teams and working in diverse and matrixed organizations.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies such as APM and PMBOK.

- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to influence and drive results in a dynamic environment.
