The future starts here! Ready to join NXP?
Become part of a dynamic team that focus on System-level Innovation for Automotive Applications. Your role is to develop a low-voltage AC battery derived from/based on an existing (DC) eBike 48V battery. There is a lot of room for new ideas and innovations, and you will be supported to have a continuous focus on development, coaching and creating a supportive environment for your team.
Your Team
The System Innovations Automotive team is part of the Central Technology Office (CTO) at NXP. We focus on system-level innovation for automotive applications such as highly automated and safe driving, audio, radar systems, in-vehicle networking, artificial intelligence, battery management systems, and mobile robotics.
We offer several exciting innovation projects where we welcome the participation of interns and graduation students (both BSc and MSc). Specific project details will be defined in consultation.
The System Innovations Automotive is actively engaged in a diverse range of cutting-edge automotive and mobility-related innovation projects, including:
Automotive Radar Applications
Development of advanced car radar systems operating above 60 GHz.
Robotics
Exploration of autonomous and intelligent robotic systems.
Automotive Concepts & Demonstrations
Including the use of a demo vehicle (VW ID.4) for showcasing innovations at events and trade shows.
Ultra-Wideband (UWB) Applications
Enabling precise localization and secure communication.
Wireless Connectivity
Innovations in automotive-grade wireless communication technologies.
Standardization Efforts
Contributing to industry standards and interoperability frameworks.
Electrification Technologies
Battery Management Systems (BMS)
Impedance Spectroscopy for battery diagnostics
Second-Life Applications for sustainable energy reuse
Your Responsibilities
A reconfigurable (typically AC) battery differs from a regular (typically DC) battery with respect to the flexibility of the power wiring: in a reconfigurable battery the (groups of) battery cells can be switched in or out of the battery cell(s) network realizing a certain output voltage.
The electrification group of System Innovations Automotive targets development of an AC battery prototype that can generate a safe AC voltage level (typically less than 50 V AC). Such an AC battery can be realized based on a DC battery of an eBike. Various resources exist providing details regarding the configuration and teardown of an eBike 48V or 36 V battery pack. The French company Gouach provides a battery pack that is to be assembled by the owner and in which cells are not welded (connected) together. The purpose is to perform on the bench comparison experiments between the DC battery + inverter and the prototype AC battery that is developed in this project. The assignment concerns development of a low-voltage AC battery that is derived from/based on an existing (DC) eBike 48V battery. The development work primarily involves designing a switching network and implementing the control system required to generate an AC output at the desired frequency.
What’s in it for you
A great opportunity to develop your skills (technical, soft skills, communication, etc.)
Gaining experience in a multinational and diverse environment
Possibility to become part of NXP’s Young Professional Talent Pool
