As a Lead Product Designer at PayPal, you'll collaborate with a cross-functional team to design payment experiences for global customers and merchants. You will influence customer-centric decisions throughout the product lifecycle, using data and research to inform design concepts. Responsibilities include creating high-quality deliverables, contributing to the design system, mentoring junior designers, and leading design initiatives. You'll represent your domain to peers and senior leaders, driving product design team excellence and achieving product design goals. This role requires strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

At PayPal, Product Designers influence teams to make customer-centric decisions across the product development lifecycle. This includes drawing on data and research to inform design concepts and decision making. We start with asking the right questions and end with optimized, best-in-class deliverables that convince stakeholders and put the user at the center. Our designers are great storytellers, active listeners, technology enthusiasts and experts of their craft.



You will be the voice of the customer and be responsible for design across your strategic product domain, contributing to PayPal’s outcomes. You will confidently represent your domain to your peers, senior leaders, and execs across the wider organization. You will also mentor other designers and help lead cross-functional teams.

Job Description:

Job responsibilities: 

  • Works with cross-functional team members driving the strategy, execution, and delivery of PayPal’s Checkout ecosystem, using a customer-focused, iterative design process.  
     

  • Creates high-quality deliverables and executes based on product design goals and priorities without prescriptive guidance or direction, managing work to a more extensive schedule.  
     

  • Leverages and extends the use of established product design techniques, templates, presentations and assets in the creation of product design analysis, solutions and materials. 

 

  • Contributes to the adaptation of PayPal product design tools, methodology and software, and proposes new solutions or optimizes existing ones.  

 

  • Creates opportunities to foster collaborative cross-discipline dynamics. Drives product design team delivery excellence, furthering influence to achieve product design goals.  

 

  • Contributes to the planning and estimating of work and participates in broader work stream coordination and expectation setting.   

 

  • Creates well-crafted interactive prototypes, templates, and contributes to our global design system. 
     

  • Leads one or more individuals in experience and design initiatives. Mentors junior product design practitioners in best practices, process and methodology. 
     

  • Plays an active role in our thriving, inspiring and rewarding UX Design practice and culture. 

 

Requirements: 

  • At least 8+ years working in product design, with a substantial focus on fintech and/or digital commerce. 
     

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in the study of design including one of the following; Design, Information Architecture, Human Factors, or equivalent project/portfolio experience. 
     

  • A portfolio of work, showcasing design excellence in delivering impactful business outcomes, and a high bar for craft.  
     

  • Mastery of product design methodology and lifecycle across significant channels and platforms. 
     

  • Customer-focused, with experience using design research methods to uncover customer insights. 
     

  • Effectively operates within an iterative design team, managing product design responsibilities against defined milestones and plans with little day-to-day oversight. 
     

  • Thorough knowledge of essential channels and platforms, with experience in mobile, dedicated, web and native solution design.  
     

  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills. 
     

  • Extensive experience working with resources such as pattern library, repositories, and internal communication tools.    
     

  • Sound understanding of technology mediums (i.e., JavaScript, HTML/CSS) including differences between them.
