The Manager, People Operations at Grindr will lead and elevate HR systems, benefits, and payroll. This hybrid role (in-office Tuesdays & Thursdays in San Francisco or Los Angeles) requires operational excellence, shaping employee experience, and supporting company growth. Responsibilities include managing HRIS (BambooHR), benefits administration, payroll operations (with ADP), ensuring compliance, streamlining HR processes (onboarding, offboarding), data-driven decision-making, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate possesses 5-8 years of HR operations experience, expertise in HRIS/payroll systems, strong analytical skills, and excellent communication abilities.

Job Details

This is a hybrid role based in our San Francisco or Los Angeles offices and will require you to be in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Are you ready to take ownership of HR operations at a fast-paced, dynamic organization? We’re looking for an experienced Manager, People Operations to lead and elevate our HR systems, benefits, and payroll. In this role, you’ll ensure operational excellence while shaping the employee experience and supporting our company’s growth. You’ll collaborate closely with the Head of People Operations and cross-functional teams, balancing hands-on execution with strategic leadership.

This is an exciting opportunity to own and improve core HR functions, drive automation and efficiencies, and play a key role in creating a people-first culture.

What’s the job?  

  • Lead HR Systems Management: Oversee HRIS (e.g., Bamboo HR), ensuring data accuracy, smooth integrations, and ease of use for employees and managers. Act as the primary point of contact for system updates, troubleshooting, and optimization.
  • Strategize and Oversee Benefits Administration: Manage benefits programs, including open enrollment, vendor relationships, compliance, and employee inquiries. Identify opportunities to enhance offerings and ensure employees get the most value.
  • Own Payroll Operations: Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant payroll processing in collaboration with finance and external providers. Oversee payroll funding, deductions, tax filings, and reconciliations.
  • Ensure Compliance and Risk Mitigation: Stay ahead of labor laws and regulations, ensuring that HR operations, payroll, benefits, and employee records are always in compliance.
  • Shape HR Operations: Lead day-to-day HR processes, including onboarding, offboarding, policy updates, and employee record management. Identify and implement best practices to streamline and scale operations.
  • Data-Driven Decision-Making: Provide leadership with insights and reports on HR metrics, benefits utilization, payroll performance, and system efficiency to inform strategic decisions.
  • Drive Process Improvement: Lead efforts to automate and modernize workflows, eliminate redundancies, and improve the employee experience.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with finance, IT, and other teams to ensure seamless operations and address payroll, compliance, or system-related inquiries.

What we'll love about you  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
  • 5 – 8 years of experience in HR operations, benefits administration, payroll, or systems management.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to oversee and improve end-to-end HR operations.
  • Expertise in HRIS systems (e.g., Bamboo HR) and payroll platforms (e.g., ADP), including workflow and integration management.
  • Strong understanding of payroll laws, benefits compliance, and labor regulations.
  • Analytical mindset with proficiency in data reporting tools (e.g., Excel, HRIS reporting) and metrics analysis.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with a passion for operational excellence.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the U.S. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, location, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role will also be eligible for equity, benefits, and a company bonus program.
