Job summary:

At Cisco, Bangalore, the Common Hardware Group (CHG) architects, designs, builds and delivers premier Access, Edge, Aggregation and Core routers that cater to the growing bandwidth demands of leading service providers and large enterprises.

As Optical Design Validation and Testing (ODVT) Engineer in a team of exceptional design and test engineers from diverse backgrounds,

You will:

Responsible for validating compliance of optical modules (IEEE/OIF TP2, TP3 compliance for SFP, QSFP, QSFP-DD and their variants) through system level tests for multiple data rates using actaul system software.

  • Be responsible for validating Host electrical compliance (HEC - TP1, TP4) using compliance boards and diagnostic software.

Collaborate closely with multi-functional teams - HW, SW, SI, Diagnostics - to ensure system boards and softwares work efficiently to enable above mentioned tests.

Build, maintain, and publish test plans and reports adhering to Cisco specified standard templates.

Understand existing automation methodology, enhance, fine tune or customize the same to further increase productivity and execution efficiency.

What we ask of you:

Expertise in reading, analysing and understanding sections in IEEE and OIF specifications pertinent to optical modules.

Strong understanding of types and variants of optical modules, connectors, cables and adapters.

Strong understanding and hands on exposure to optical test equipment (Oscilloscopes, Network Analyser, BERTs, CDRs, switches, multiplexers) capabilities, compliance and test utilities and features.

Strong coding skill in Python or similar automation/scripting softwares.

Ability to read product requirement docs and hardware functional specifications and map them to validation plans.

Hands on of sub-components inside optical modules that enable optical to electrical conversion, and vice versa.

Fair understanding of transmission line concepts, signaling protocols (NRZ, PAM4, PSK, QAM), timing, jitter, crosstalk, noise, channel equalizations techniques and high speed Serdes, board layout and schematics.

Self drive and motivation and minimal supervision from seniors or managers.

Thorough great teammate mentality with desire to share knowledge and standard methodologies.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and capability to present concepts, results, data and updates to larger teams and forums.

Preferred qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering.

3+ of demonstrated ability in system hardware test validation with emphasis on optical modules' compliance testing.
