Job Description

As a Principal Engineer, Front End Development at Gemini, you will be a key technical leader influencing the technical direction of a key product surface. Responsibilities include architecting, developing, and advocating cutting-edge user interfaces for Gemini's web platform. You'll ensure high-performance and scalability, collaborate with various teams (product, UX, back-end), optimize web performance, and mentor a team of approximately 40 engineers. You'll also champion best practices, conduct code reviews, and stay updated on emerging front-end technologies. The role involves working on a conversational AI tool designed to enhance user collaboration with generative AI.

Must have:

15+ years experience managing large-scale projects
Experience in Machine Learning/AI
Bachelor's degree in CS or equivalent
Design & develop high-performance web front-ends
Work with product, UX, and back-end teams
Mentor a team of ~40 engineers

Good to have:

Master's/PhD in CS, Math, or Engineering
Experience with TypeScript, React, or Angular
Knowledge of web testing infrastructure
Experience with large language/multi-modal models
Passion for AI technology

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
15 years of experience managing large-scale technical projects in the software engineering domain.
Experience in Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering.
12 years of experience in software development.
Experience with front end technologies like TypeScript, React or Angular.
Knowledge of and experience with front-end, web testing infrastructure, distributed systems and architecture.
Knowledge of ML and front-end domain, including experience with large models (language or multi-modal).
Passion for AI technology and all of its possibilities.

Optimize the performance of Gemini's Web surface.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of approximately 40 front-end and application engineers.
Advocate and enforce front-end development best practices and code reviews, staying abreast of emerging front-end technologies and trends.
