The Lead will conceptualize, design, code, and debug in accordance with designated standards and procedures. Responsibilities include leading and developing a team of software engineers, resource planning, managing day-to-day activities, producing reports, utilizing programming languages and technologies, supporting bids, analyzing system requirements, and providing product support. The role requires experience with software engineering, programming languages, and the ability to coach teams using agile methods. The role requires fluent German and English language skills.

Job Details:

This role is responsible for the team leadership of a Software Engineering group to deliver products and objectives of any given project in accordance with key milestones and deliverables.  They will conceptualize, design, code, debug and perform development activities in accordance with designated standards and procedures.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and develop a team of software engineers (native app & frontend developers) across multiple projects.
  • Be hands-on with the frontend developers where needed, particularly in React and / or ReactNative
  • Responsible for resource planning and the allocation of work within the team to meet project milestones while maintaining project schedules and earned value metrics.
  • Assign roles, responsibilities, and manage the day-to-day activities of the team. Coach and mentor team members, taking a proactive approach to their continual development.
  • Produce regular checkpoint reports.
  • Use current programming languages and technologies, including React, ReactNative, to provide creative, thorough, and practical solutions to a wide range of technical problems.
  • Share technical expertise within the department and with other departments as requested. Encourage cross-functional collaboration.
  • Support bids, proposals, and customer variation requests.
  • Analyze and contribute to system and subsystem requirements specifications and design definitions.
  • Design, develop, and test applications and programs to support the company’s products.
  • Design, develop, and test software programs following established quality standards and internal procedures, including coding, unit testing, and software configuration control.
  • Complete high- and low-level detailed software design specifications, storyboards, and interface specifications.
  • Provide support for products from conception to delivery, including problem-solving, defect maintenance, and customer service support.
  • Prepare reports, manuals, procedures, and status reports, with the ability to create and review technical documents, contracts, and proposals.
  • Undertake all performance management processes and handle any issues regarding conduct or capability.
  • Oversee all recruitment processes for permanent and contract staff within the frontend and native app development teams.
  • Champion the application of software best practices such as Continuous Integration, Test-Driven Development (TDD), SOLID principles, and Clean Code methodologies.
  • Work with the DevOps team to maximize automation and efficiency within development teams.
  • Keep abreast of improvements and developments in software engineering
  • Comply with Cubic's values, policies, and procedures, including the code of conduct, quality, security, and occupational health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Minimum Job Requirements:
 

Skills knowledge and experience: 

Essential:

  • Demonstrable software engineering experience with a proven track record of specification, design and development of software
  • Current knowledge of software engineering programming languages and technologies
  • Fluent German and English language skills - a must-have
  • Able to coach the use of Scrum or comparable agile methods, striving to produce highly motivated and self-organising teams
  • Good understanding of refactoring techniques for improving legacy code
  • Hands on capability at a coding level when required
  • Key input to team members appraisals, ensuring that they have measurable personal development goals which encourage software best practices
  • Key input to recruitment, identifying candidates with strong skills with software best practices
  • Result orientated and capable of taking a lead role in a project including developing concepts, objectives, resource requirements and cost controls
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage a team including setting objectives, performance management and development
  • Effective decision maker with the ability to consider the impact and take accountability for decisions
  • Proven track record of problem solving and effective resolution.  With the ability to define test schedules and data requirements
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, including ability to create and review reports, technical documents, contracts and proposals.

  • Scrum experience

Education and qualifications

Essential:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline or equivalent qualification/experience

Desirable:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Certified in Requirements Engineering
  • Certified Scrum Master or other comparable agile method
