The Project Controls Digitization Lead will spearhead the digitization of project controls processes within Microsoft's Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) team, focusing on cost, planning, and risk management. This role involves creating business requirements documents, building process maps, developing and implementing cost/risk management strategies, generating reports, and training end-users on new digital tools (like Oracle P6 Enterprise, Omega 365, Safran Risk). The ideal candidate will have experience implementing project controls solutions, managing cross-functional projects, and working with owners or EPC organizations on mega-project capital programs. Responsibilities include leading digitization efforts, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring compliance with enterprise policies and standards. The position is located in Atlanta, GA, Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX, Phoenix, AZ, or Washington DC and offers a hybrid work model.
Must have:
  • 4+ years experience in relevant field

Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind one of the world’s largest cloud infrastructures, responsible for powering all Microsoft online Products and Services as well as powering Microsoft’s “Cloud First” mission. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide. Within CO+I, the Engineering, Procurement and Construction team is responsible for supporting delivery of datacenter capacity for Microsoft’s cloud business. We have a portfolio of complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-million, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects with specific safety, quality, schedule, and cost goals.  

 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Controls Digitization Lead to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a proven background in Project Controls, with a proven track record of implementing digital solutions to enhance project efficiency and effective cost management, planning management, and risk management. 

 

The Project Controls Digitization Lead is the responsible advocate and acts as the point of contact for the global project controls digitization efforts regarding cost, planning or risk management.  The role will require defining and executing plans for organizational initiatives and objectives related to cost, planning, or risk; defining, collecting and evaluating success criteria and performance metrics; assisting with communication plans and organizational change management; evangelizing programs to stakeholders; lead digitization efforts supporting cost, planning or risk management; understand process and data mapping and the inherent impacts to people, processes, technology, and systems; assisting with the identification, scoping, and prioritization of opportunities for program development and/or improvement related to scheduling. Being part of this team would give you an opportunity to be part of a rapidly growing business and enable global impact.  

 

This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ, Washington DC. Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location. This role is eligible for hybrid, up to 100% from home.

Qualifications

Required Qualitifcations

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Experience implementing Project Controls solution for cost management, such as Omega 365 or PIMS
  • Experience with P6 enterprise (scheduling) and Safran (risk management) 

  • Experience working for owners or EPC organization working on mega-project capital programs. 

Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in project controls with heavy knowledge of cost management and estimating
  • Proficiency in project management software and digital tools for cost tracking and analysis. 
  • Analytical skills and attention to detail. 
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Proven ability to indirectly lead a team and influence others. 
  • Problem-solving and analytical abilities. 
  • Adaptable and able to thrive in a dynamic environment. 
  • Certification in Project Management (PMP) or Cost Management (CCM). 
  • Experience with ERP systems and data analytics tools such as SAP ECC and S4 Hanna, Power Bi. 
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in project controls and cost management. 

 

Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the digitization of project controls processes, focusing on cost, planning or risk management and efficiency improvements. 
  • Create Business Requirements Documents based on the needs of internal stakeholders including engineering, procurement, construction and project controls teams to ensure new tools and/or solutions meet specific needs of the collective EPC organization. 
  • Build detailed cross-functional process maps to support delivery of new tools and solutions. 
  • Write use-cases, execute test scripts and validate scenario outcomes as well as performance targets that are expected to be achieved. 
  • Develop training content and ensure proper training and support are provided to end-users to facilitate smooth adoption of the new system. Train and mentor team members on best practices in cost management and the use of digital tools. 
  • Work with the Cost, planning and risk teams to develop and implement cost, planning or risk management strategies to ensure projects are completed within budget and on time with financial predictability as a primary objective. 
  • Support analyzing cost, planning or risk data and generating detailed reports to support decision-making and project planning. 
  • Establish and maintain governance processes, ensuring compliance with master data management, enterprise policies and standards 
  • Monitor and support the following tools post-implementation, Oracle P6 Enterprise, Omega 365, Safran Risk.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities, prioritize strategic initiatives, develop project plans, and implement enhancements related to digital tools for planning, cost, risk management and probabilistic analysis for both cost and schedule.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve schedule management processes to enhance operational efficiency, project predictability while aligning with industry standards and best practices.
