This Research Internship at Microsoft's Central Program Management team focuses on building go-to-market capabilities for their research lab. As a Product Strategy Intern, you'll collaborate with program managers, engineers, researchers, and leaders to develop a release strategy for a new internal AI transformation platform. Responsibilities include building an internal release and campaign strategy for the product launch, conducting primary and secondary research, and presenting findings to executive leadership. The ideal candidate possesses a strong foundation in product management, exceptional communication, and stakeholder management skills, along with a deep curiosity about user behavior and organizational dynamics. The internship provides real-world project experience and collaboration opportunities with global teams, contributing to cutting-edge technology development.
Must have:
  • PhD in Business, Strategic Management, Economics, or related field
  • Exceptional communication & stakeholder management skills

  • Experience in marketing, strategy, or user research

The Central Program Management team at Microsoft Research is looking to build our go-to-market capability for the lab and we want you to join us on this journey. As a Product Strategy Intern, you will partner with technical program managers, engineers, researchers, and organizational leaders to develop a release strategy for a new internal AI transformation platform for the organization. You will build an internal release and campaign strategy to be used in conjunction with the product launch. 

 

We are seeking Research Interns with a strong foundation in product management, exceptional communication skills, and effective stakeholder management. The ideal candidates will exhibit a deep curiosity and interest in user behavior and preferences as well as organizational dynamics.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a PhD in Business Administration, Strategic Management, Economics, Communication, or a related field.  
  • At least 1 additional quarter/semester of school remaining following the completion of the internship.

Other Requirements

  • Research Interns are expected to be physically located in their manager’s Microsoft worksite location for the duration of their internship.
  • In addition to the qualifications below, you’ll need to submit a minimum of two reference letters for this position as well as a cover letter and any relevant work or research samples. After you submit your application, a request for letters may be sent to your list of references on your behalf. Note that reference letters cannot be requested until after you have submitted your application, and furthermore, that they might not be automatically requested for all candidates. You may wish to alert your letter writers in advance, so they will be ready to submit your letter. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in marketing, strategy, economics, user research, behavioral science, organizational behavior, sociology, psychology, or communications.
  • Conduct primary and secondary research and apply findings to develop a program release plan and associated assets. 
  • Deliver research insights in a final presentation targeting an executive level audience. 

The base pay range for this internship is USD $6,550 - $12,880 per month. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $8,480 - $13,920 per month.

Research Interns put inquiry and theory into practice. Alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world’s best researchers, Research Interns learn, collaborate, and network for life. Research Interns not only advance their own careers, but they also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, Research Interns are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other Research Interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer.
