Job Description
Skydance Animation seeks a Senior Grooming/CFX TD to create high-quality grooms and surfacing for animated characters. Responsibilities include creating artistically appealing hairstyles and simulations for various characters and elements; executing CFX work in shot production, including character simulation and correctives; collaborating with art direction and production teams; and staying current with industry methodologies and technologies. The role involves developing departmental tools and providing team support and guidance. The ideal candidate will possess at least 4 years of experience in animation grooming/VFX, expertise in Houdini, and knowledge of various grooming, surfacing, and simulation tools.
Must have:
- 4+ years experience in animation grooming/VFX
- High-quality groom creation
- Houdini expertise
- Knowledge of grooming, surfacing, simulation tools
- Collaboration with art direction and production
Good to have:
- Knowledge of Python or C/C++
- VEX and Houdini HDA creation
- Spanish language skills

As a Senior Grooming/ CFX TD t you will Create the highest quality grooms, including hair surfacing lookdev for animated characters in pre-production.
Also, you will be responsible for execute CFX work in shot production (This includes character simulation, geometry correctives and groom correctives.)
Responsibilities
- Work within art direction guidelines
- Creating complex, artistically appealing hairstyles, grooms & surfacing for human characters , furry creatures ,feathered characters ,props and elements
- Creating high quality cloth, hair and skin simulations & correctives for shot work in production.
- Keep up on current artistic methodologies and on technology trends and tools that best suit the production and the company, in the development of a stronger creative and technical environment
- Involvement in the development of departmental tools and techniques
- Work within the established pipeline
- Works together with the team providing them with support, guidance and instruction in areas that contribute towards their artistic and professional growth.
- Follows supervisor’s and lead's guidance to deliver the highest quality work, matching the picture style
- Work closely with production to ensure the desired work is delivered and that deadlines are met
- Ability to perform multiple tasks, set priorities and problem solve
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience in Grooming in Animation or VFX;
- Must have a good understanding of the processes of grooming, surfacing, rendering, simulation.
- Ability to consistently produce high quality grooms and delivering on schedule.
- Strong knowledge of Houdini
- Depth of knowledge in groom & surfacing tools, renderers (Houdini, Maya, xGen, Yeti, Shave and Haircut, Mari, Substance, Arnold or Renderman)
- Knowledge of CFX and simulation tools a plus (nhair, carbon, vellum)
- Knowledge of Python or C/C++ programming, VEX and Houdini HDA creation a plus.
- High English level desirable
- Spanish knowledge is a plus
