As a Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft's Location Service Team, you will apply advanced engineering and machine learning to solve complex location inference, geospatial, and mapping challenges. You'll work across diverse technology stacks, processing large-scale data, building inferences and services to enhance location-based features. Collaboration with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver high-quality services is crucial. Responsibilities include designing architectures for large-scale data processing, developing and optimizing code, and leveraging expertise to drive project plans. Proactive learning and adaptation to new technologies are also expected to improve product performance and scalability. The role involves addressing complex location inference, geospatial, and mapping challenges in production environments, working across different technology stacks, and collaborating with stakeholders to meet user needs.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in CS or related field
  • Coding experience (C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python)
  • Strong algorithm and data analytical skills
  • Ability to meet Microsoft security screening requirements
Good to have:
  • Master's degree in Computer Science
  • Experience with data analytics, modeling, and machine learning

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Solid algorithm and data analytical background with very good understanding on how to apply advanced knowledge to solve real world problems.

Other Requirements:

 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in data analytics, modeling, and applying machine learning techniques to solve complex problems.
  • Proven experience in designing and developing architectures for large-scale data processing systems.
  • Deep proficiency in C# and the .NET Framework, or equivalent programming environments.
  • Excellent ability to collaborate effectively with complex partnerships and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently in a team to deliver innovative solutions solving challenging business/technical problems.
  • Ability to handle ambiguities and collaborate across multiple groups.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced engineering techniques and machine learning solutions to address complex location inference, geospatial, and mapping challenges in production environments.
  • Work across different technology stacks, including processing large-scale data, ranking, and building inferences and services to enhance location-based features.
  • Engage closely with stakeholders and partner teams to gather requirements, ensuring the delivery of high-quality location services that meet user needs.
  • Drive identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
  • Create, implement, optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
  • Leverage subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.
  • Proactively seek new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
