We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineering Manager to join our engineering team. This role involves managing engineering managers, guiding technical direction, and ensuring that our engineering practices are aligned with our strategic goals. As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in scaling our engineering operations, improving processes, and supporting the development of our teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Lead and manage a team of engineers and junior Engineering Managers, ensuring they are equipped to meet their objectives.
    • Oversee the growth and development of multiple squads, aligning their work with organisational goals.
    • Implement and refine engineering management practices, introducing structured processes to enhance team efficiency.
  • Strategic Planning and Execution:
    • Collaborate with product managers and delivery managers to plan and execute quarterly and long-term goals.
    • Prioritise and allocate resources to meet business needs, balancing technical debt with new feature development.
    • Guide teams through technical challenges, including incident management and improving operational readiness.
  • Scaling and Innovation:
    • Lead initiatives to scale engineering practices from smaller teams to larger, multi-team structures.
    • Encourage technical experimentation and the adoption of new tools and processes.
    • Oversee the implementation of automated testing and continuous integration practices to ensure reliable product releases.
  • Cultural and Organisational Development:
    • Promote a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement within the engineering organization.
    • Mentor engineering managers and engineers, helping them grow in their roles and develop leadership skills.
    • Address organisational challenges and implement strategies to align team culture with company values.
  • Performance Management:
    • Establish clear performance expectations aligned with organisational goals.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews, providing constructive feedback and supporting career development.
    • Address performance issues proactively, ensuring teams operate efficiently and effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in engineering management
  • Strong background in scaling engineering organisations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, quarterly planning, and resource allocation.
  • Ability to drive organisational change and implement structured processes in dynamic environments.
  • Technical expertise in engineering best practices and incident management is a plus.

Whilst the products that we build are global we have two amazing offices in the same building in the heart of the CBD with all the bells and whistles you could ever want.
