Job Description

As a Senior VFX Artist at Sledgehammer Games, you will deliver high-quality VFX art for the FPS genre, utilizing proprietary real-time particle systems. This hybrid role in Guildford, UK, involves collaborating with global teams to enhance gameplay, atmosphere, and develop VFX tools. Your work will span single-player, cinematics, multiplayer maps, weapon effects, and MTX, requiring a willingness to learn fast and creatively solve technical and performance issues.
Must have:
  • Deliver stunning realistic VFX for the FPS genre using proprietary real time particle systems.
  • Create vfx assets for various stages of game development, from concept to final polish.
  • Represent the VFX team and have a strong voice in meetings, communicating clearly and effectively with other team members across all time zones.
  • Collaborate with other team members and disciplines to create VFX for stunning environments and compelling moments.
  • Assist in the R&D of new pipelines and processes, documenting your findings.
  • Creatively solve technical issues as they arise and address performance issues.
  • Have a high standard of artist skill in creating texture assets for effects.
  • Have a critical eye and appreciation of cinematics when placing effects.
  • Highly skilled in all areas of 3D VFX principles and techniques for console hardware (Xbox, PS, PC).
  • Strong overall artistic ability in visual effects.
  • Experience with and a good working knowledge of the limitations and expectations of current/next generation hardware.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Maya/Max, Houdini and Photoshop.
  • Experience with other engines toolsets such as Unreal, Unity and proprietary game engines.
  • Experience collaborating with graphic programmers and mentoring other artists.
Good to have:
  • Strong background in modelling, animation and/or traditional art
  • Experience with After Effects, Embergen, Blender or similar
  • Experience and comfort with one or more scripting/programming languages
  • Passion for the Call of Duty franchise

Please note: This is not a remote role. This is a hybrid position based in our Guildford Studio, offering flexibility with a combination of in-studio and remote workdays. Permanent remote work is not available for this position.

Your Mission

As a Senior VFX Artist you will display a proven record of delivering high-quality VFX art, fierce art skills in composition and timing, an in-depth knowledge of game development and be willing to jump on any problem we throw your way. That could mean anything from working with designers to improve the feel of gameplay, working with environment artists to heighten the game’s atmosphere or collaborating with engineers to develop VFX tools. Your work could be varied across SP, cinematics, MP Maps, weapon effects, and MTX. A willingness to jump in and learn fast is a vital part of this role.

  • Create vfx assets for various stages of game development, from concept to final polish.
  • Represent the VFX team and have a strong voice in meetings, communicating clearly and effectively with other team members across all time zones.
  • Collaborate with other team members and disciplines to create VFX for stunning environments and compelling moments.
  • Assist in the R&D of new pipelines and processes, documenting your findings.
  • Creatively solve technical issues as they arise and address performance issues.
  • Have a high standard of artist skill in creating texture assets for effects.

Player Profile

Minimum Requirements:

  • Highly skilled in all areas of 3D VFX principles and techniques for console hardware (Xbox, PS, PC).
  • Strong overall artistic ability in visual effects.
  • Passionate and egoless attitude that welcomes feedback and criticism, and enjoys working in a collaborative, iterative, and agile process
  • Experience with and a good working knowledge of the limitations and expectations of current/next generation hardware.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Maya/Max, Houdini and Photoshop
  • Experience with other engines toolsets such as Unreal, Unity and proprietary game engines.
  • Experience collaborating with graphic programmers and mentoring other artists.
