Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

Netflix’s Labor Relations team is responsible for managing the company’s relationships with all entertainment industry unions and guilds. They represent Netflix externally in negotiations for various multi-employer agreements with unions like DGC, ACTRA/UBCP, IATSE, etc., and provide expert advice internally to the studio on a broad range of labor-related issues involved in production.

Netflix seeks an experienced labor relations executive to help support our expansion efforts in Canada as a Senior Manager on the team.

Some of the various job responsibilities include:

  • Providing advice in connection with the guild and union above the line and below the line agreements (compensation, pension and health, residuals, credit, working conditions, clip reuse and other issues relating to the applicable collective bargaining agreements)

  • Advising internal groups on the terms of the Canadian guild and union agreements

  • Advising the business and legal affairs teams on the applicable guild and union language for various talent agreements

  • Negotiating above-the-line and below-the-line guild and union agreements in both multi-employer and single employer negotiations

  • Investigating and resolving labor-related grievances

  • Consulting with Production HR in connection with investigations involving union-covered employees

  • Training internal teams on guild and union agreements

  • Overseeing outside counsel on labor arbitrations or in other legal proceedings

  • Advising internal groups on union avoidance and union strike guidance

REQUIREMENTS

  • The successful candidate will ideally have 7+ years of film/TV labor relations experience, including direct experience leading negotiations with the Canadian guild and union agreements and providing in-house support in a production company or major entertainment studio.

  • This person must also have established stellar working relationships with the entertainment industry guilds and unions, and other studio labor executives.

  • Candidates should also have broad and deep production experience all over Canada and be able to finesse relationships between different branches of the Canadian guilds and unions.

  • Candidates should understand the complexities of hiring US talent on Canadian shows and understand the dynamic between the US Guilds and their above-the-line Canadian counterparts (i.e., WGA vs. WGC, DGA vs. DGC and SAG-AFTRA vs. ACTRA/UBCP).

The successful candidate will also possess the following:

  • Excellent collaboration skills

  • Clear, concise communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills and good judgment

  • Ability to work proactively, independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment
