Job Description

Google is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join its Host Network Functions team. This role requires a minimum of 8 years of software development experience, including expertise in data structures/algorithms, testing, launching software products, and software design and architecture. Responsibilities include providing technical leadership on high-impact projects, coaching a distributed team, managing project priorities, and designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing large-scale software solutions. Experience with C++, Operating Systems, Systems Engineering, Software Development, and TCP/IP is essential. The ideal candidate will also possess experience with Linux Internals, DPDK, and Network Virtualization. The role involves working on projects critical to Google's needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects.

Must have:

8+ years software development experience
Data structures/algorithms expertise
Experience testing and launching software
C++, OS, Systems Engineering, TCP/IP knowledge
Software design and architecture experience

Good to have:

Master's or PhD in related field
Technical leadership experience
Experience in a matrixed organization
Linux Internals, DPDK, Network Virtualization experience

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
Experience with C++, Operating Systems, Systems Engineering, Software Development and TCP/IP.

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
3 years of experience working in a matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
Experience with Linux Internals, Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) and Network Virtualization.

he US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$284,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
