Rockstar Games is seeking a UX Researcher to support our Publishing arm. This will involve building relationships with, and running UX research for, a large range of stakeholders working in areas including marketing, commerce, online services, customer support, and user generated content. Research needs may sometimes blur the boundary between in-game and out-of-game, so it may sometimes also be required to run studies that cross over with aspects of the game experience.

This is a full-time, in-office position based out of Rockstar’s NYC headquarters in Downtown Manhattan.

WHAT WE DO

  • The Rockstar Games UX Research Team plans, executes, and drives user experience research activities for game and publishing projects across the company.
  • We ensure every piece of research yields high quality, actionable data.
  • We contribute to the ongoing refinement of UX research at Rockstar, including methodological improvements, process development, and collaboration with other insights teams, such as Analytics and Consumer Insights.
  • We support our employees with a culture of career development, safety, and inclusion.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and execute research activities for Rockstar’s Publishing teams, including Marketing, Commerce, Online Services, Creator Platform, and Customer Experience.
  • Develop close working relationships with members of stakeholder teams and other Insights teams (such as Analytics and Consumer Insights)
  • Identify product needs and transform them into research goals.
  • Apply a mixed-method approach, harnessing a variety of qualitative and quantitative methods (including interviews, surveys, heuristics, telemetry, descriptive, and inferential statistics) and adapt methodologies based on logistical and product context.
  • Understand and provide feedback on research artifacts and prototypes to incorporate them in research activities.
  • Generate actionable insights that support product-refining iteration and strategic direction.
  • Effectively communicate research insights (verbally and in writing) to a variety of stakeholders with different backgrounds.
  • Support creation of research strategies at a product level.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters or PhD in Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in UX research in the games industry.
  • Experience collaborating with a variety of product development stakeholders.
  • Broad knowledge of video game genres.

SKILLS

  • Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced environment with the need to manage constant change, and the ability to work through organizational complexity and ambiguity.
  • Ability to think strategically and work cross-functionally across local teams to collaborate and create impact on a global scale.
  • Ability to present to senior stakeholders and facilitate broader design discussions within the team.
  • An empathetic style: an ability to build trusted relationships and achieve consensus and buy-in at all levels of an organization.
  • Detail-oriented and highly efficient.
  • Self-starter, independent, entrepreneurial spirit.

PLUSES

Please note that these are desirable skills and are not required to apply for the position.

  • Prior experience of UX research in or adjacent to the games industry.
  • Knowledge of Rockstar's games.
  • Knowledge of statistics.
