The Associate Maintenance/Equipment Manager in Drive Unit at Tesla's Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg will lead a team of engineers and technicians, focusing on improving overall equipment efficiency, product yield, cost, and cycle time. Responsibilities include planning maintenance strategies, executing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting breakdowns, managing resources, documenting improvements, providing team guidance, ensuring legal compliance, managing budgets, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The role requires hands-on experience in maintenance of production and assembly machines, ideally within the automotive or mass production industry.
Must have:
  • BS in Electrical, Mechanics, or Mechatronics
  • Team leadership in automated manufacturing
  • Maintenance experience in production/assembly
  • Troubleshooting complex equipment failures
  • Good English and German skills
Good to have:
  • Experience with Siemens, Rexroth, Beckhoff servomotors
  • PLC software (TIA Portal, TwinCAT)
  • Fanuc, Kuka Robots
  • Keyence vision systems
  • Atlas Copco, Cleco, Rexroth tightening spindles

The Role Associate Maintenance/Equipment Manager in Drive Unit will have extensive hands-on experience in all facets of maintenance.
We are seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented leader to be responsible for the performance and development of a team of equipment engineers & maintenance technicians while driving improvements in overall equipment efficiency, product yield, cost, and cycle time. The Associate Equipment Manager will lead by example and manage, support, and develop the performance of the team to ensure continuous production and enable world-class manufacturing of Tesla’s cutting-edge Drive Units. 

What You’ll Do
  • Plan and decide appropriate maintenance strategy for productive assets, equipment and machinery.
  • Responsible for the professional execution of preventive maintenance, servicing and calibrations on productive and test machinery.
  • Lead the team to eliminate failures and malfunctions on complex production and assembly machines for the Tesla Model Y Drive Unit production.
  • Lead a team to diagnose faults, troubleshooting breakdowns, root cause analysis and lessons learn report of complex failures.
  • Make daily resource allocation decisions, balancing competing priorities.
  • Document and admin the continuous improvement of maintenance activities for cross trainings and upskill the maintenance team.
  • Provide feedback, couching and guidance to engineers and supervisors regarding needs of spare parts, special tools and trainings for the constant improvement of maintenance strategies.
  • Guide the team to comply on legal requirement topics related to maintenance structure (e.g., hazards materials, yearly approvals of safety equipment).
  • Support in contact and supervision of external services with contractors.
  • Admin the spare parts, services and consumables budget.
  • Work in cross functional teams on methods to improve maintenance organizational and technical knowledge.
  • KPI driven for Safety, Availability, MTTR, MTBF, scrap, cost, moral.
  • Interface between maintenance, process and production areas including other shops to program and optimize the use of planed downtime. For repairs and improvements.
  • Serve as backup Engineer for all members of the team both to ensure zero gaps in coverage as well as adequately address issues of escalating complexity.
What You’ll Bring
  • BS in electrical, mechanics or mechatronics or equivalent experience. 
  • Experience leading teams within heavily automated, high volume manufacturing facilities, including but not limited to assembly, robotics, etc.
  • Professional experience in the field of maintenance of production and assembly machines, preferably in the automotive or mass production industry
  • Desirable experience in use of the following tools: Servomotors Siemens, Rexroth, Beckhoff or similar; PLC software such as Tia Portal, Twin Cat, or similar; Fanuc, Kuka Robots or similar, Keyence or similar vision systems, Tightening spindles Atlas Copco, Cleco, Rexroth or similar, different Conveyor Systems.
  • Good English and German skills in speaking and writing. 
  • Focus Oriented in Customer service.
  • Proficient skills in communication verbal and written.
