The Avionics and Functional Architect will define conceptual avionic architectures (Power, Data Handling, Guidance and Navigation, Communications), their system and subsystem requirements, and oversee avionic design implementation. Responsibilities include developing operational, logical, and functional architectures based on mission objectives, using MBSE/ARCADIA methodology, and working within a system-level core team. The candidate will interface with agencies and customers, requiring strong communication and teamwork skills. This role requires managing complex avionic system designs efficiently, from defining system functional architectures and interfaces to performing system and subsystem trade-offs.
Must have:
  • Master's degree in Engineering (Electronic Engineering preferred).
  • Knowledge of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) and ARCADIA methodology.
  • Experience with Capella tool.
  • Ability to manage Subcontractors from a technical and programmatic point of view.
  • Fluent English (spoken and written).
Good to have:
  • Previous work experience in the requested discipline and field (Space).
  • Knowledge of design and simulation tools (Matlab and Phyton).

We are looking for an Avionics and Functional Architect.

The Candidate shall define the conceptual avionic architectures (Power, Data Handling, Guidance and Navigation and Communications), their system and subsystem requirements and shall follow the avionic design implementation in accordance with the requirements and the Customer needs.

The Candidate shall start from the initial main mission objectives and develop the operational, logical and functional architectures, correlating them with the system and subsystem requirements. The Candidate shall operate in the frame of MBSE / ARCADIA methodology.

The candidate shall operate inside a system level core team and interface with the Agencies and Customers, therefore he shall have peculiar communication skills, pro-active attitude in facing and solving problems and inclination to team working.

He has to have a solid cultural base in avionic field such to be able to define and manage in a short time a complex avionic system design.

Key duties:

  • Act as member of the System Design Department for avionics aspects (Power, Data Handling, Guidance and Navigation, Communications).
  • Define and design the system functional/avionics architectures and relevant interfaces
  • Perform functional analysis ofa complex space system defining the functions and Sub-System’s necessary to meet the Customer needs,
  • Apply Model Based System Engineering methods (MBSE).
  • Perform at Spacecraft level System and Subsystem trade-offs (e.g. mass, power, dissipation, inertia, configuration and Solar Array dimensioning, battery, TT&C, thermal, payload and propulsion)
  • Elicitation of system avionics requirements and definition of the hardware/software partition.
  • Follow-on the avionic Sub-Systems procurement.
  • Coordinate avionics verification ad validation both at subsystem and system level.
  • Support Quality Assurance for discussion and disposition of NCRs during manufacturing, integration and testing activities.
  • Interface with Customer.

Skills, experience and qualifications required:

  • Master degree in Engineering (Electronic Engineering preferred).
  • Previous work experience in the requested discipline and field (Space) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) and ARCADIA methodology and experience with Capella tool.
  • Ability and experience in managing Subcontractors from both a technical and programmatic point of view.
  • Attitude to manage and be leader of a technical Team.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks at one time.
  • Good will in facing and learning new things.
  • Fluent English (spoken and written).
  • Knowledge of design and simulation tools (Matlab and Phyton) is appreciated (not mandatory).
