About the job

We are looking for an experienced gameplay designer to join our team. Your main responsibility as our new colleague will be to prototype and implement gameplay interactions for a 3D, open world adventure game. You will also be involved in testing throughout production and integrating the results back into future iterations of the game.

As a gameplay designer you will have a keen eye for how to adjust a given interaction in order to get the resulting experience to feel just right. Our workflow is iterative and we strive for detail and high quality in every interaction that a player will experience.

We are looking for someone who is excited about all of the small intricacies of gameplay design, as well as being passionate about gaming overall.

You should be willing to work onsite at the Playdead office in Copenhagen, Denmark.

What will you be doing?

  • Translate complex ideas and concepts into solid game mechanics through prototyping
  • Design and implement gameplay interactions that are clear and compelling for the player
  • Collaborate with level designers, artists, programmers, animators and other members of the development team to develop the vision for locations in the game
  • Participate in test sessions and gather feedback to support future iterations of the game
  • Define your own goals and tasks so that you can deliver your best work and support other team members to do the same

Required skills

  • Professional game development experience
  • Ability to create gameplay prototypes with scripting languages
  • Experience with designing and implementing gameplay interactions
  • Great communication skills to collaborate with others across multiple departments

Bonus Points

  • You have developed and shipped a title
  • Experience using major game engines - we are especially interested in people with Unreal Engine 5 experience
  • Experience with level design

About The Company

Playdead is an independent game developer and publisher based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The company was founded in 2006 by game designer Arnt Jensen. Since then, we have made LIMBO and INSIDE.

Today, we are a team of more than 55 creative professionals with a broad range of experience and education.

Our current project is a third-person science fiction adventure set in a remote corner of the universe.
