Job Description

The CFX TD at Scanline VFX designs, builds, and maintains in-house artist tools, UI, and dynamic rigs. Reporting to the CFX Head, this role involves collaborating with the Studio pipeline team to support artist/production teams across studio projects, specializing in CFX. Key responsibilities include creating artist tools and UI, deformation and curve deformation, identifying and implementing pipeline features, troubleshooting issues, supporting production teams, writing technical briefs, and identifying areas for improvement. This requires intermediate to advanced skills in Python, Mel Script, and expertise in Houdini & Maya. The ideal candidate possesses 5+ years of creature simulation experience in VFX and demonstrates a strong understanding of Maya APIs.

Job Details

Reporting to the CFX Head of the Department, the CFX TD designs, builds, and maintains in-house artist tools, UI, and dynamic rigs. As a dotted line partner with the Studio pipeline team, the CFX TD supports artist/production teams across studio projects, with a specialization supporting the CFX  department. Must have demonstrated intermediate and higher skill levels with Python, Mel Script, and a strong understanding of Houdini & Maya.

Key Responsibilities

    • Create artist tools and UI for the CFX Department   
    • Deformation and Curve Deformation
    • Partner with the management team to identify and implement existing and new pipeline features/Artist tools, UI, and Rigs
    • Troubleshoot artist tool issues; develop effective solutions in collaboration with pipeline team
    • Support Production team; attend production meetings as needed for information and requirements gathering
    • Write Technical Briefs and provide supporting documentation to studio teams
    • Identifies early areas of improvement; escalates issues as needed
    • Run shots and support various tasks assigned as needed

Qualifications

    • BA Computer Science, Math, or similar discipline (preferred)
    • Minimum five (5) years of Creature simulation experience in VFX feature films or similar production environment.
    • BA Computer Science, Math, or similar discipline (preferred)Hair, cloth, muscle simulation experience
    • Demo Reel demonstrates photo-realistic examplesMaya, Python, Mel Script (required)Houdini expert (required)
    • Experience working with Maya APISoup Maya (bonus)C++, Max/Max Script (preferred)
    • Experience delivering complete milestones/tasks under tight deadlinesStrong written and verbal communication skills
    • Eye for detail and high-quality VFX, initiative, and excellent organizational skills
    • Team player who is able to work independently with minimal supervision
    • Learn quickly with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
