Job Description

The Entertainment Manager leads daily operations of adult and family events and activities on a Disney Cruise Line vessel. Responsibilities include ensuring quality guest experiences, managing show quality, scheduling events, maintaining supplies, and submitting orders. The role involves leading, coaching, and developing direct reports, conducting performance reviews, and ensuring compliance. Additional duties include emceeing events, managing the Bingo program, selling Port Adventures, assisting cruise staff, maintaining guest flow, and adhering to safety protocols. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with experience in entertainment, public relations, or guest services.
Must have:

Reports to the Senior Entertainment Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the daily operation of Adult & Family events and activities. Leadership responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ensuring a quality guest experience, monitoring and ensuring show quality, assisting Assistant Cruise Director with the daily scheduling of events and activities, maintaining necessary supplies and equipment, and submitting orders for Family, Adult and Island programs to Yeoman and/or shoreside Purchasing contact
  • Provide leadership, coaching and development for all direct reports, including Entertainment Host/Hostess and Cruise Staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: managing personnel files, conducting performance reviews, including discipline as needed, ensuring Project Onboard compliance, monitoring STAR, while making necessary corrections, onboard training, new hire and ongoing, succession planning, and crew recognition and communication
  • Oversee all activities for an adult and/or family audience, including but are not limited to: theme nights and special events, day and evening deck parties, themed game and trivia shows, Bingo, indoor and outdoor sports themed games and challenges, ship and/or island tours, introduction of guest speakers, card/board, pool and island games
  • Support team as emcee for onboard events and venues, requiring microphone use and stage presence
  • Facilitate onboard Bingo program – act as emcee; focus on Bingo revenue and cruise targets; handle administrative side of operation; correspond with shoreside Bingo vendor; manage overall ordering and onboard stock; oversee training and selling techniques
  • Execute selling of Port Adventures to guests – meet guests at assigned debark venue, spiel important excursion information, collect tickets and waivers and escort guests to meet their appropriate vendor
  • Be prepared to cover for Cruise Staff and/or Entertainment Hosts
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate guest flow in all areas onboard, informing guests of other onboard activities to ensure adequate guest participation
  • Follow scripts, but also ad lib, as necessary
  • Perform abbreviated shows as necessary based on weather conditions, safety issues, and/or Entertainment Management decisions
  • Report costume, technical, and maintenance needs
  • Actively participate in all Castaway Cay job responsibilities associated with position and line of business as directed by DCL leadership
  • Execute additional job responsibilities, as assigned by DCL leadership, based on operational need
  • Comply with all company set policies and procedures, along with all maritime and ship rules, regulations and procedures
  • Participate in Emergency Duties as specified in the ship Assembly Plan

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum three years experience in a public relations, entertainment, guest services, resort/recreational, or related field
  • Minimum three years experience working within a position that demonstrates hosting experience, stage experience and public speaking skills
  • Proven experience leading and motivating a team
  • Ability to seek out guest contact while displaying boundless amounts of energy, outgoing attitude, enthusiasm, and self-motivation
  • Ability to learn and memorize scripts in a timely manner
  • Ability to be flexible, self-motivated, handle multiple demands, stay calm under pressure and resolve issues quickly
  • Exceptional presentation, communication and organizational skills
  • Relates well to audiences of all ages and demographics while offering a passion for engaging an audience in entertaining program and event
  • Strong microphone skills, team skills, detailed, flexible, and committed to guest satisfaction
  • Strong aptitude to learn dance routines and to dance in a ‘club’ style setting
  • Maintain performance quality and the ability to perform rehearsed roles
  • Ability to perform in environments that have second-hand smoke, pyrotechnics, chemical smoke, haze, fog, dry ice, and other special effects
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be able to speak, read and write fluent English
  • Willingness to live and work onboard one of our vessels for a certain length of time (based on position)
  • Be able to work a seven-day, 70-84 hour week with limited time off
  • Be able to adhere to Disney Cruise Line appearance guidelines
  • Agree to share a cabin with other crew members
  • Enjoy working in a high-volume, fast-paced, guest-service oriented environment
  • Be flexible with your work schedule, job duties and work locations
  • Appreciate diversity among guests and crew
  • Previous shipboard experience a bonus, but not mandatory

Additional Information:

This is a SHIPBOARD role.

Applicants must:

  • Be genuinely interested in a career at sea and willing to live and work onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel
  • Be committed to the position you are applying for at least 2-3 contracts before a transfer or promotion
  • Be willing to follow and perform safety role, emergency duties and/or associated responsibilities as specified in the ship Assembly Plan
  • Be willing and able to uphold the general safety management responsibilities specified in the Safety Management System in areas and operations under their control
  • Be willing to follow and embrace United States Public Health requirements and guidelines as well as Environmentality requirements and Company practices
  • Be willing to share a cabin with other crew members and appreciative of working and living in a multi-cultural environment
  • Be comfortable living in a confined space with strict rules and regulations
  • Adhere to a structured lifestyle, personally and professionally

Your Responsibilities:

  • Have a valid passport and C1/D Seaman's visa (DCL will provide you with documents to obtain this)
  • Complete a pre-employment medical
  • Obtain a criminal background check
  • Bring approved work shoes

**Disney Cruise Line is a drug-free workplace. All new hires are required to undergo drug/alcohol testing within the first week onboard and throughout their contracts. Failure to pass the drug/alcohol testing will result in immediate termination.
