Job Description

The GHG/Carbon Emissions Standards Reform Lead at Google will spearhead efforts to improve GHG and Net Zero standards, aligning with Google's business interests and the broader ecosystem. This role involves strategic and programmatic execution, including monitoring standards bodies, developing technical guidance, driving internal alignment, and engaging with technical standards bodies. Leading a small team, this position requires coordinating internal and external stakeholders to identify areas for developing and evolving GHG emissions frameworks and standards. The successful candidate will challenge the status quo and drive progressive action on standards reform across key frameworks like the GHG Protocol, CDP, and SBTI. Responsibilities include envisioning and building Google's knowledge on corporate GHG emissions standards, developing and managing a GHG standards reform program, supporting the incorporation of new market mechanisms, and facilitating external research and coalitions.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years program/project management experience
  • Stakeholder management experience in sustainability/carbon reduction
  • Develop and manage GHG standards reform program
  • Engage with standards bodies to drive reforms

Job Details

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in program or project management.
  • Experience working with stakeholder ecosystem related to corporate sustainability, carbon reduction, Greenhouse Gas Protocol, or similar.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Standards, Policy Work, Engineering, or Sustainability.
  • Experience developing opinions and strategy on insights and translating and presenting these into meaningful recommendations for multiple audiences, including the C-Suite level.
  • Experience having worked with standard-setters, think-tanks, and policy organizations.
  • Proficient in data analytics and policy research to deliver insights and decisions.
  • Ability to discern key inputs and retain and use data that drives impact decisions, with analytical skills in a highly ambiguous environment.

As the Greenhouse Gas Standards Reform Lead, you will lead efforts to reform and improve GHG and Net Zero standards and protocols in support of Google’s business interests and improving the broader ecosystem. In this role, you will be responsible for strategic and programmatic execution, including monitoring key standards bodies, developing technical guidance and criteria, driving internal alignment on Google views, and engagement with technical standards bodies.

In this role, you will lead a small team that drives coordination across key internal and external stakeholders to identify areas to develop and/or evolve GHG emissions, environmental market initiatives, and climate related frameworks and standards. Additionally, you will challenge the status quo and drive progressive action on standards reform across key GHG emissions and corporate Net Zero frameworks such as the GHG Protocol, CDP, SBTI, and similar.

The Google Climate Operations team is responsible for ensuring Google achieves 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy and Net Zero emissions for our global operations and value chain by 2030. The team works cross-functionally across our global operations and hardware supply chains to develop and scale new solutions on energy and carbon. It also leads efforts to create the external market environments necessary to drive decarbonization in a way that facilitates these goals and enables others to do so as well.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $221,000-$311,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Envision and build Google’s knowledge on corporate GHG emissions and Net Zero related corporate standards.
  • Develop and manage a GHG standards and Net Zero reform program, including setting strategy, providing technical guidance, developing public positions and engaging with standards bodies to drive reforms.
  • Support the incorporation of new market mechanisms in standard setting forums.
  • Facilitate external research, establish or participate in coalitions, and provide support for other modes of standards advocacy.
