Tesla's Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg seeks a Manufacturing Engineer specializing in stamping dies. Reporting to the Stamping Manufacturing Engineering Manager, this role centers on process improvements for new product introductions, focusing on cost, quality, and timing. Responsibilities include leading ECO implementations, collaborating with internal/external teams on die modifications and repairs, developing a spare parts catalog, analyzing downtime and part quality, and implementing 3D die design modifications. The position requires proficiency in CAD software (CATIA V5), AUTOFORM, and problem-solving methodologies. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, along with experience in automotive stamping or die manufacturing.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering, Stamping, this role focuses on supporting process improvements for new product introductions. The position is responsible for ensuring projects are executed efficiently, with a focus on cost, quality, and timing. While this role does not include people management, collaboration with internal and external teams is essential.

What You’ll Do
  • Act on directions from the Manager to drive process improvements during new product introductions.
  • Execute tasks with a focus on cost, quality, and timing.
  • Foster a team-player attitude within both the home and interacting organizations.
  • Ensure all activities comply with environmental, health, safety, compliance, and security regulations.
  • Assess the feasibility of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), estimating time and cost for implementation.
  • Collaborate with the CAD Tech Lead, ECO/Machining Lead, and Toolmakers to develop and execute plans for stamping die modifications, quality improvements, new designs, and repairs.
  • Lead full-cycle implementation of ECOs, including data overlays, die design modifications, and coordination with the Tool & Die ECO team and vendors.
  • Support the development of a standard spare parts catalog for new projects.
  • Attend change control meetings to prioritize Model Y ECOs and modification requests, focusing on quality, cost, and lessons learned.
  • Implement 3D die design modifications based on Engineering Change Orders.
  • Support the engineering team in executing Die Modification Requests (DMRs) to improve dimensional quality, fit, and overall body accuracy in BIW panels.
  • Analyze reports on die-related downtime and part quality to develop methods that reduce Mean Time to Failure (MTTF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), and improve part quality.
  • Collaborate with global teams to implement systems aimed at defect reduction, with a target of zero defects.
  • Assist in creating standards to enhance the efficiency of Tool & Die systems and lead initiatives for continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical support during die design, vendor buy-off, and home line trials for new model dies.
  • Independently generate or modify AUTOFORM simulations for vehicle stamping parts, including die design, process planning, and springback compensation.
  • Lead technical reviews of die designs, patterns, cast models, and checking fixtures to prevent production issues.
  • Document lessons learned and ensure their application in future projects. 
  • What You’ll Bring
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience with demonstrated exceptional ability).
    • Proven ability to work and collaborate across multiple professional teams.
    • Experience in automotive stamping or die manufacturing.
    • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
    • Proficient in structured problem-solving methodologies.
    • Ability to perform under time pressure while working in a team environment.
    • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, Jira, and Confluence.
    • Willingness to travel, including some international travel as needed.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Fluent in German and/or English.
    • Experience with CNC programming and surface reverse engineering is a plus.
    • 5+ years of experience with CAD software (CATIA V5).
    • 5+ years of experience in large die design.
    • 5+ years of experience with AUTOFORM R6 (or higher), focusing on new process setup and compensation.
    • Experience with world-class appearance requirements in a production environment.
    • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
    • Day-shift work schedule, with flexibility to cover shifts during buy-offs or severe process issues.
