Job Description
This role involves building and releasing production software at the platform level for Microsoft AI's Product Acceleration team. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining platform-level software solutions; collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate AI capabilities; ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance; and staying updated on AI and engineering advancements. The engineer will work with APIs, data flows, systems, and services forming the backbone of AI products, collaborating with technical staff and AI researchers to improve model development flows. This position requires strong knowledge of APIs, data flows, and systems, and experience building and releasing production software.
Must have:
- 4+ years experience building & scaling web services
- Deep Python experience & Golang/Java/Scala/Typescript
- Platform-level software development experience
- API, data flow, systems & services knowledge
Good to have:
- Model pretraining, post-training, evaluation, and inference experience
- Experience with ML frameworks & language learning models
- Excellent communication & cross-functional collaboration skills
- Experience with zero-to-one projects and developed systems

Responsibilities
As an AI Platform Engineer, you will play a crucial role in building and releasing production software at the platform level. You will work on APIs, data flows, systems, and services that form the backbone of our AI products. Your expertise will help us create robust and scalable platforms that drive innovation and efficiency.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related/equivalent technical discipline AND 4 years technical engineering experience building and scaling web services, APIs, and products.
- OR equivalent experience.
- Deep experience with Python AND at least one of the following: Golang, Java/Scala, Typescript (React, Next.js)
- 4 years' experience in building and releasing production software at the platform level.
- Strong knowledge of APIs, data flows, systems, and services.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related technical discipline AND 6 years technical engineering experience building web services with coding in languages including, but not limited to: Python, Golang, Java/Scala, Rust
- 6 years' experience in building and releasing production software at the platform level.
- Deep experience with all of the following languages: Golang, Java/Scala, Typescript (React/Next.js)
- Experience in model pretraining, post-training, evaluation, and inference
- Experience using Machine Learning frameworks, including experience using, deploying, and scaling language learning models, either personally or professionally.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers.
- Proven ability to collaborate and contribute to a positive, inclusive work environment, fostering knowledge sharing and growth within the team.
- Experience going from zero-to-one as well as working with developed systems.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing requirements and deadlines.
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
