SummaryBy Outscal

IO Interactive is seeking a Multiplayer Programmer with experience in online tech to enhance their Glacier engine for an ambitious new fantasy RPG. You'll design and implement network/multiplayer features, collaborate with AI and gameplay teams, and contribute to server infrastructure. Experience with C/C++, multiplayer technology concepts, and large codebases is essential.

A passion for fantasy worlds has long been ingrained in our studio, and at last we can announce we have embarked on a journey into that beloved realm. With a party of veteran IOI guild members and new wizards and sorceresses of the industry, we are building an ambitious new IP for console and PC that will revolutionize the online fantasy RPG genre. If you share a similar passion for creating welcoming, heartfelt, bold and impactful worlds, join us and together we will write the next chapter in IOI's history.

For developing this new fantasy project, we are seeking a Multiplayer Programmer who is passionate and experienced with online tech. We can offer the immersive mastery we are known for, on a whole other level of player interaction.

What You Will Do:

  • You will help enhance our in-house Glacier engine by adding multiplayer capabilities. This involves working on the design and implementation of network/multiplayer features for the engine and our games that need multiplayer support.
  • You’ll collaborate closely with the AI and gameplay teams to develop network-aware features and ensure smooth workflows and setups.
  • You will work with the online team to help create, manage, and monitor our game servers and backend infrastructure.
  • Your team will be responsible for building and maintaining the network layer, ensuring the smooth delivery of multiplayer features.

Who You Are:

  • You have experience as a software, engine, or multiplayer/network programmer and have contributed to the development of at least one multiplayer game.
  • You have solid knowledge of C/C++ programming.
  • You understand key multiplayer technology concepts like firewall traversal, data compression, encryption, distributed algorithms, latency compensation, and more.
  • You are comfortable working within large, existing codebases and integrating new technologies.
  • While mentorship experience is a plus, you're eager to grow your skills and collaborate with more senior programmers.
