Position Overview

Autodesk is on a journey to transform its business through realization of our platform strategy and is seeking a Senior Distinguished Architect to help us in that journey. A forward-looking architecture strategy grounded in architectural, engineering and operational excellence will empower engineering teams to deliver innovative solutions that meet the growing expectations of customers.   

As a senior technology leader reporting to the Vice President, Chief Architect for Product Development and Manufacturing Solutions, you will help establish architecture best practices and set target state architecture strategy across the PDMS portfolio. In that role you will be required to identify, analyze, prioritize, and drive strategic initiatives to achieve desired outcomes. You will play a key part in defining PDMS architecture guidance, ensuring governance, and supporting the architecture practice to realize Autodesk's platform vision for transforming the design & make industry.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the VP, Chief Architect of Product Development and Manufacturing Solutions, as a Senior Distinguished Architect you will: 

  • Deliver together with PDMS teams a current state & target state architecture defined w/ recommended incremental implementation plans
  • Define and establish architecture qualities, develop review processes and formulate strategies to automate governance through tooling: walled gardens, paved paths, CICD gates & AI
  • Lead the architecture reviews and forums to promote best practices, align on architecture decisions and ensure non-functional qualities across the portfolio
  • Work with the chief architect to inform future investments via quantitative and qualitative arguments
  • Drive continuous improvement emphasizing standards, reuse, privacy, security and resilience
  • Collaborate with architects and stakeholders across divisions on key strategic initiatives
  • Share, grow and maintain expert knowledge of architectural patterns, technologies and trends
  • Track industry best practices & bring innovative, state of the art thinking to our practice of software architecture
  • Advise on the development and use of Autodesk and AWS technologies, including databases, compute frameworks, CI/CD, and regionalization strategies
  • Write and speak about your work through internal conferences, mentoring, seminars, etc. 

Ideal Candidate

  • Deep understanding of modern software design patterns, cloud best practices & technologies including DevOps, DevSecOps and AWS Well-Architected Framework
  • Demonstrates accountability for their designs through implementations and operations
  • Consistently demonstrates sound and pragmatic technical judgment, soliciting feedback from stakeholders, weighing multiple factors, and anticipating long-term impacts and requirements
  • Communicates effectively and proactively on technical topics to varied audiences across both levels and disciplines
  • Actively tracks relevant technologies and advises on technical strategy
  • Has a track record of delivering timely and functional designs spanning products and industries
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience as a software engineer / architect including hands on development
  • 5+ years in a senior architecture role in a SaaS business pursuing a platform strategy
  • Self-directed with an ability to identify points of leverage, set strategy and work efficiently.
  • BS or MS in computer science or related field 
  • Exceptional influencing skills 
  • Demonstrated success working independently amid ambiguity in complex, global, matrixed environments, and with technical and business groups internally and externally   
  • Demonstrated innovation through patents, publications, conference presentations, etc.

Salary transparency

Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $207,400 and $335,500. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
