Job Description

IO Interactive seeks a Senior Game Designer (Player) to create distinctive player characters with unique abilities for a new fantasy RPG. Responsibilities include conceptualizing, designing, and iterating on character designs, collaborating with other teams (narrative, animation, art, programming), conducting play sessions for feedback and adjustments, and mentoring junior designers. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of AAA game design experience focusing on hero/character design, a proven track record of creating iconic characters, strong collaboration skills, experience with balancing abilities in multiplayer settings, and exceptional communication skills. The position is permanent with a hybrid work option (up to two days remote).

Job Details

A passion for fantasy worlds has long been ingrained in our studio, and at last we can announce we have embarked on a journey into that beloved realm. With a party of veteran IOI guild members and new wizards and sorceresses of the industry, we are building an ambitious new IP for console and PC that will revolutionize the online fantasy RPG genre. 

We are looking for a talented Senior Game Designer (Player) to come on board an be a part of this exciting new chapter with us. If you're passionate about crafting dynamic and engaging heroes that players will stand for years to come, we'd love to have you in our guild. 

This is a permanent position based in one of our studios, with the option to work from home up to two days per week. 


What you will do:

  • Conceptualize, design and iterate to create distinctive player characters with unique abilities tailored to enhance gameplay experiences.
  • Collaborate with narrative designers, and animators to integrate compelling characters with dynamic abilities, and exciting move sets.
  • Participate in regular play sessions to collect feedback and implement adjustments that will perfect player dynamics and interactions.
  • Mentor junior designers and provide guidance on best practices in player design and development. 

Who you are:

  • 5+ years of experience in game design, with a specific focus on hero or character design in the AAA games industry.
  • Proven track record in designing iconic characters with memorable personalities and skill-sets.
  • Strong ability to collaborate across various teams, including art and programming to ensure cohesive integration.
  • Experience with balancing and tuning player character abilities in multiplayer environments.
  • Exceptional communication skills that convey complex ideas in a simple manner.

About The Company

IO Interactive is a 25-year old, AAA independent game studio, creators of HITMAN, Kane & Lynch, Mini Ninjas and Freedom Fighters. We are currently working on Project 007, Project Fantasy, and continue to develop Glacier, our award-winning game engine.

IO Interactive was established in September 1998. The IO Interactive technology team consists of programmers, software engineers and mathematicians with considerable experience in game programming and 3D graphics. Graphic designers, artists and animators are recruited from the game and entertainment industry, as well as the best art schools from all over the world.
