Job Description

The Opportunity: 

The Global Packaging and Omnichannel Creative team is a group of passionate and inspired designers with the goal of creating outstanding packaging and creative assets for the best toys on earth! Mattel package designers focus on creating visual assets for products throughout categories like Dolls, Vehicles, Action Figures, Games, and more. In this role you will research trends, ideate multiple concepts, and partner on strategy guidelines with marketing and brand partners.  The ideal candidate will have a proactive mindset and problem-solving mentality pushing the boundaries on creative projects.

What Your Impact Will Be:

  • Create relevant and trend forward brand statements through innovative package designs and digital assets.
  • Gather and interpret market trends to formulate mood boards and design intent.
  • Partner with E-comm, Marketing and Brand teams to create assets for an omnichannel approach to brand engagement from concept to production.
  • Work with copywriters & engineers to create cohesive packaging/brand statements.
  • Partner with product design & marketing counterparts to ensure package delivers on strategy.
  • Art direct in-house & outside resources such as illustrators, photo re-touchers, and Asia counterparts to develop elements of package and E-comm.
  • 3D render and/or physically comp packages for presentations (Adobe Dimension preferred).
  • Communicate and partner with Asia counterparts to ensure quality and integrity of package design is maintained through production and onto shelf.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For: 

  • 4+ years design experience and a Degree in Design or Arts/Graphic Design Experience within the packaging discipline
  • Passion for design and creative thinking that strives for innovation and break frame solutions
  • In-depth knowledge of Photoshop & Illustrator (and the entire Adobe Suite)
  • Basic 3D software knowledge (Adobe Dimension preferred). Proficiency in 3D software is a plus
  • Ability to lead the creation of Style Guides and visual architecture for a brand
  • Team player (Can work well with immediate team members and cross functional partners)
  • Ability to accept and give creative direction
  • Up to date on current trends (graphics, advertising, fashion, technology, entertainment, social, etc.)
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet deadlines
  • Experience in the methods and process of print manufacturing
  • Passion and desire to work on legacy brands that remain relevant as well as new or licensed brands that break boundaries year after year.
