Job Description

As (Sr.) Manager of Strategic Planning, you'll lead the development of strategic plans and key decisions for Samsung Semiconductor's semiconductor and display businesses. You'll meet with leading organizations to analyze the competitive landscape, create industry models, and provide insights to executive leadership. Responsibilities include market analysis, identifying collaboration opportunities, developing relationships with internal customers, analyzing market gaps, and identifying strategic opportunities and threats. This role requires strong strategic marketing, business development, and leadership skills with a deep tech background in fields like AI, Cloud, or Automotive. The position is based in San Jose, California, requiring onsite work five days a week.

What You’ll Do

Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. is a world leader in Semiconductor Memory, Logic, Storage, and Display technologies. The markets in which we compete are going through a once-in-a-generation shift that will have a profound impact on our businesses. A wide range of emerging applications, from AI to autonomous driving are redefining who our customers are, the products we sell, and the way we go to market.

To help guide Samsung’s semiconductor and display businesses through these changing times we have created a US-based strategic planning team. This new team, reporting to CFO, is charged with sensing new opportunities and threats, and leading cross-functional teams to define how Samsung Semiconductor will respond. This dynamic team also manages Government Relations, University Relations, and operations for both Sales Marketing and R&D.

As (Sr.) Manager of Strategic Planning, you will be responsible for leading the development of strategic plans and key strategic decision topics and recommendations. The ideal candidate has a strong mix of strategic marketing, business development, and leadership skills & experience, with a strong background in deep tech and associated applications in fields such as AI, Cloud, Automotive or other high-tech industry.

Location: Onsite working at our San Jose office 5 days per week.

  • Meet with industry’s leading organizations to identify competitive environment, providing insights that support strategic decision-making for leadership.
  • Creates and updates comprehensive industry, competitor and customer models including, but not limited to, market share, growth projections and trends, and market forces.
  • Performs thorough, systematic analysis of key industry trends; the general social economic and political environment; legal and regulatory issues; customers; current and potential competitors.
  • Provides market and competitive insights through presentations and reports to the Executive Leadership Team and various internal management teams to allow effective strategic and tactical decision-making and implementation.
  • Identify and develop collaboration and alliance opportunities (e.g.: Cooperative development, and technology licenses, etc.).
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key internal customers to identify emerging needs and business challenges.
  • Analyze potential market and product gaps across the company's new and existing portfolio along with value added products.
  • Identify issues representing opportunities or threats of strategic importance, translate assessments of strategies into actionable decision points and recommendations.
  • Capture key insights, facts, and discussions from key conferences, seminars, and events.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering related and at least 10+ years of in the Semiconductor Industry; technology, marketing, and/or business development roles.
  • Good perspective on the semiconductor industry including a strong understanding of trends and recent developments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of one or more deep tech fields.
  • Investment Banking experience preferred.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and bias toward action.
  • Understanding of market research and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills including effective written communication and public speaking skills.
  • Skilled at multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • You’re inclusive, adapting your style to the situation and diverse global norms of our people.
  • An avid learner, you approach challenges with curiosity and resilience, seeking data to help build understanding.
  • You’re collaborative, building relationships, humbly offering support and openly welcoming approaches.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in government relation, university relations, corporate strategy, business development, and management consulting.
  • Working knowledge of semiconductor industry and products e.g. DRAM, NAND, CPU, application processors, CMOS image sensors, OLED displays.
  • Ability to travel frequently.
  • Bilingual in Korean and English is must.

Base Pay Range

$127,170 - $196,830 USD
