Job Summary

Job Description

The Senior Publisher will drive the editorial and publishing development of a portfolio of journals, managing Journal Development/Improvement Plans and overseeing their implementation. They will also ensure that journal KPIs are met, develop relationships with internal colleagues and identify new journal opportunities. Furthermore, they will engage with research communities, attend external meetings, and maintain relationships with researchers. The role requires understanding trends in the research community and publishing industry and translating them into new product proposals. The publisher will work with Springer Nature to ensure researchers, educators, clinicians and other professionals can find, understand and use fundamental knowledge.
Must have:
  • Experience in the STM publishing industry.
  • Knowledge of research communities in China and worldwide.
  • Educated to Master's degree, preferably in geosciences/applied sciences.
  • Excellent networking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Numerate and IT systems-literate.
  • Capable of organising and prioritising numerous tasks.
  • Resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems.
  • Excellent team-working skills.

Responsibilities

1. Drive the editorial and publishing development of a portfolio of journals

  • Drive the growth and development of a group of journals as part of the strategically defined overall portfolio.
  • Manage annual Journal Development/Improvement Plans and oversee their implementation and successful conclusion.
  • Develop your journals to deliver a best-in-class author experience and enjoy maximum engagement from the editorial team or journal partners.
  • Ensure that all journal KPIs are regularly monitored, reported and met, and that action is taken as needed.
  • Develop strong working relationships with internal colleagues in other departments.
  • Identify and evaluate new journal opportunities and contribute to journal proposals as part of the strategically defined overall portfolio.

2. Understand and engage regularly with the research communities and third-party partners that your journals serve

  • Attend external meetings to build close working relationships with external EiCs, EBMs, society partners and the wider research community
  • Understand the trends and changes in the communities you serve to ensure that Springer Nature can respond with increased publishing volumes and/or new editors/EBMs
  • Become recognized as an outstanding publishing expert by the members of the relevant research communities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with a network of researchers
  • Be aware of changes within the research community and publishing industry, and translate these into proposals for successful (new) products and services.

Experience, skills and qualifications

  • Experience in the STM publishing industry and knowledge of research community in China and worldwide
  • Educated to Master’s degree, preferably in geosciences/applied sciences
  • Have excellent networking skills
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Be numerate and IT systems-literate, with a sharp eye for detail
  • Be capable of organising and prioritising numerous tasks
  • Be resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries
  • Have excellent team-working skills to deal with people at all levels
