Job Description
This Accountant role within Google's International Controllership focuses on managing the financial statements process, tax compliance for APAC Alphabet entities, and financial analysis to ensure accuracy. Responsibilities include managing external vendors, collaborating with internal and external partners (including business managers, Tax, Treasury, Legal, and Audit), and developing tools to improve efficiency. Fluency in English and Mandarin is essential for client relationship management in the Asia Pacific region. The role demands strong accounting principles understanding (US GAAP, IFRS), experience with APAC tax/audit filings, and proficiency in tools like SAP S4 HANA and SQL. The ideal candidate will be a team player with strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Must have:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent
- 4 years of accounting experience (or 1 year with advanced degree)
- APAC tax/audit filing experience
- Fluent English and Mandarin
- US GAAP & IFRS knowledge
Good to have:
- CPA or equivalent
- SAP S4 HANA experience
- SQL, Google Sheets, scripting skills
- Data analysis and problem-solving skills

Job Details
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4 years of experience in accounting or a related function, or 1 year with an advanced degree in accounting, business, or finance.
- Experience working with tax or audit filing within the Asia Pacific region.
- Ability to communicate in English and Mandarin fluently to support client relationship management in this region.
Preferred qualifications:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or equivalent qualification.
- Experience using SAP S4 HANA and understanding of accounting principles, including US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Experience in SQL including Google sheets and scripting.
- Ability to evaluate datasets and combine these to identify gaps and summarize issues to assist in decision making.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional, fluid environment, and interact with people at all levels of a company.

Responsibilities
- Oversee the annual statutory financial statements process, including management of the tax compliance for a portfolio of Alphabet entities in APAC.
- Perform regular analysis on the financials, ensuring the integrity and financial accuracy of our books and records.
- Manage the delivery of accounting processes performed by external vendors ensuring that all service levels are met, the internal control environment is well-established and a quality service is provided.
- Represent Accounting and Finance with our business partners through communication with in-country business managers, Technical Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Regulatory Compliance, Internal Audit and Financial Planning.
- Develop knowledge of tools and applications in support of the accounting function and highlight opportunities for improvement, managing projects that will yield efficiency through automation and optimization.
