Job Description

As an Application Engineer for the PI Expert team, you will design and develop Power Integrations' official design tool, PI Expert. This collaborative role requires expertise in analog electronics related to Power Electronics and object-oriented programming. Responsibilities include defining and developing software to help customers design with the company's controllers, maintaining the codebase, collaborating with teams to define requirements, and ensuring program functionality. The role requires a deep understanding of software and hardware to contribute effectively to the design tool's ongoing development and optimization.
Must have:
  • MS or BS in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with 2+ years experience.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical engineering principles.
  • Experience with SMPS topologies (Buck, Flyback, LLC, etc.).
  • Experience with scripting tools (MATLAB, Python, etc.) and C++.
  • Ability to quickly understand and write maintainable code.
  • Strong communication skills for team and stakeholder interaction.
  • Proficiency with version control systems like Git.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of software security best practices.
  • Strong attention to detail in documentation.

  • Familiarity with PI Expert.

Job Details

As an Application Engineer for the PI Expert team, you will be responsible for design and development of Power Integrations official design tool – PI Expert. This role is highly collaborative and requires strong technical expertise in the fundamentals of analog electronics relevant to Power Electronics and the principles of object-oriented programming. 
  
Responsibilities:  
  • Define and develop a software product that enables the company’s customers to design with its highly integrated power supply controllers. 
  • Maintain existing codebase by bug fixing, refactoring, and implementing unit tests. 
  • Collaborate with the software and electrical engineering teams to define the requirements for NPI to ensure that the program functionality meets expectation. 
Minimum Requirements:  
  • MS or BS degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with 2+ years of relevant industry experience. 
  • Knowledge of basic electrical engineering – passive and semiconductor device operation, circuit analysis using Kirchoff’s laws, linear algebra, etc. 
  • Experience with design of SMPS topologies (Buck, Flyback, LLC, etc.) 
  • Experience working with scripting tools (MATLAB, Python, etc.) and C++, preferably involving projects related to design software for analog electronics products. 
  • Ability to quickly understand existing codebases and write clean, easily maintainable code. 
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with internal team members and external stakeholders. 
  • Proficiency with version control systems such as Git. 
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and the ability to generate and effectively express ideas. 
  • Knowledge of software security best practices and experience implementing secure coding practices. 
  • Strong attention to detail in documentation and reporting.

Power Integrations is committed to building teams that drive innovation and therefore review a range of factors when determining compensation.  The annual base pay range for this position is $90,484 to $137,713. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, qualifications and work location.  
The range displayed on the job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position in California. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
