Purpose of the Role
The Area Strategic Intelligence Manager is responsible for developing and implementing strategic insights mechanisms to provide analytical research across verticals, products, and geographies. This role is crucial in guiding Maersk's positioning in Greater China by analyzing customer insights, market share, and competitive landscapes. Additionally, the role involves establishing a framework and baseline for market databases within Greater China.
Key Responsibility
Insight: Market Dynamics and Maersk’s Market Share
- Develop and maintain regular reports on Ocean and Logistics & Services (L&S) market growth and market share analysis for the Greater China Area (GCA). This includes tools like CTS, SCFI, etc.
- Gather and analyse market insights on 3PL, Shipping, Trade & Customs, and relevant news. Translate these insights into actionable recommendations, serving as the primary contact for market intelligence.
- Collect vertical customer insights and prepare industry-specific studies. Translate these insights into actionable guidance for Maersk's sales and product teams, aligning them with industry trends and customer needs.
Analytics: Maersk’s Competitive Landscape
- Conduct quarterly competitor analyses for selected verticals, products, and geographies. For example, assess how Maersk L&S business compares to other 3PL players in Greater China in terms of financial performance, scale, customer journey and value propositions.
- Collaborate with the GCA Product Management team to establish industry benchmarks against competitors, creating reference groups for each product.
Management: Strategic Intelligence Portfolio
- Manage a comprehensive portfolio of existing and incoming in-house research projects.
- Develop a prioritization framework for these projects and studies, effectively planning and organizing the research agenda.
- Lead the alignment and discussions with CEN Strategy Intelligence on behalf of the GCA.
Communicate: Cascade Key Insights To Broader Organization
- Responsible for creating forums and channels to distribute and communicate strategic intelligence to the Greater China Area (GCA) and/or relevant teams.
Required Competencies
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience, preferably in consulting or market intelligence industries.
- Industry Knowledge: Proven experience in container and logistics market research, with strong skills in data collection, filtering, and sourcing.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly PowerPoint and Excel. Familiarity with ThinkCell, Stata, or other data analytics tools is a strong plus.
- Communication: Excellent communicator, confident in presenting to large audiences and senior stakeholders in both Chinese and English.
- Critical Thinking: Strong critical and strategic thinking abilities, with the capability to translate industry trends and competitive information into actionable guidance for commercial and operational teams.
