Job Description

Google seeks an Audio Systems Engineer for their Hearables team. Responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams to design and develop hearable audio systems, tuning and evaluating audio algorithms (ANC, transparency, playback), conducting objective and subjective testing, developing testing tools and methodologies, and validating and debugging audio system software. The ideal candidate possesses experience with hearable audio systems, audio measurement tools, and digital signal processing. They will also be responsible for algorithm enhancement coordination and debugging.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • 2 years experience in consumer hardware (or 1 year with advanced degree)
  • Experience with audio measurement tools
  • Experience with hearable audio systems (acoustics, transducers, microphones, ANC, DSP)
  • Algorithm tuning, evaluation, and debugging
Good to have:
  • Master's or PhD in relevant field
  • 7 years experience with consumer hardware
  • Experience in hearable audio system design, tuning, and validation
  • Experience in objective and subjective assessment of audio quality
  • Experience with control theory and ANC

Job Details

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience working in a consumer hardware technical environment, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • Experience with standard audio measurement and analysis tools, (e.g., ACQUA, SoundCheck, Audio Precision, Audition, Matlab/Python).
  • Experience with hearable audio systems (e.g., acoustics, transducers, microphones, ANC, and digital signal processing).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP).
  • 7 years of experience with consumer hardware, producing new technology.
  • Experience in hearable audio system design, tuning and validation, including ANC, transparency and playback.
  • Experience in objective and subjective assessment of hearables audio quality and ANC/Transparency performance.
  • Experience with control theory and ANC.

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product, Acoustic, Algorithm, and Software teams to define and develop hearable audio systems and deliver solutions that meet key user experiences.
  • Own tuning, evaluation and debugging of hearable audio algorithms, including Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), transparency, and playback.
  • Be an expert in objective and subjective testing, develop tools, tuning strategies and automate new methodologies to launch hearable audio solutions.
  • Validate and debug audio system software, coordinate on algorithm enhancements with developers.
