Summary

This Controls Engineer position involves troubleshooting ride/show control systems and equipment at a theme park. Responsibilities include investigating and resolving operational issues, developing engineering solutions, managing projects related to system obsolescence and performance enhancement, leading ride safety testing, and participating in park development projects. The role requires proficiency in PLC programming (Rockwell ControlLogix and/or Siemens TIA Portal), industrial communication protocols, electrical schematics, and troubleshooting computerized systems. Experience with safety PLCs and functional safety standards is essential. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with stakeholders to define requirements, design solutions, and document engineering changes.

Job Summary:

Position Summary

Self-driven individual contributor as part of the Scientific Systems team under the Facility Services, assisting in troubleshooting of Ride/Show control systems and equipment operational issues to develop short-term and life-cycle engineering solutions.  Perform software & hardware engineering tasks including engineering analysis, testing, requirements, maintenance, inspection procedures and installation. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Providing investigative and resolution support on attraction control and automation systems for sustainment and improvement of safety, show quality and reliability of attractions in the park.  Familiar with the ride/show systems, carry out troubleshooting, fault investigation, data collection and analysis and provide and implement resolution or mitigation actions.
  • Undertaking projects to tackle attraction control systems technical obsolescence, performance/ reliability enhancement, incorporating new functionalities. You will be the project manager/supporting the project manager to plan, design, execute and manage the project timeline and cost to meet the requirement of quality, cost and timeline.
  • Taking lead on ride safety testing activities and fulfilling the requirement of Amusement Rides (Safety) Ordinance. Planning and preparing the testing procedures for the ride safety test, conducting the test to the satisfaction of the ride surveyor.
  • Providing continuous improvement and enhancement of the design and integration of attraction control systems. Working with stakeholders to define and develop the requirement, create, design, modify, test and document all the engineering changes.
  • Participating in park development/expansion projects to enhance existing and build new attractions.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Eng., Electronic Eng., Mechatronic Eng., Computer Eng., Computer Science, Communication Eng., or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience in design, engineering, software programming, implementation, installation, testing and commissioning of industrial automation and computer controlled electromechanical systems. Candidate with less experience will be considered as Controls Support Engineer.
  • Proficient in PLC programming (IEC 61131-3 LAD, ST, C, C++) for automation and safety-related motion control systems using Rockwell ControlLogix and/or Siemens TIA Portal, Step7. Knowledge in programming with Beckhoff automation tools, e.g. TwinCAT, is preferred.
  • Proficient in integration and configuration of PLC systems, variable frequency drives, industrial communication & networking protocol and fieldbus (Ethernet/IP, EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS, PROFINET, Modbus TCP). Familiarity with industrial communication protocols, e,g. EtherCAT, EAP, EtherNet/IP, CAN, is preferred.
  • Experience in working with automatic machinery controls, I/O, HMI, MCC, field devices (sensors & actuators), variable speed drives and motors.
  • Proficient in developing electrical control schematics and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD or EPLAN P8.
  • Hands-on experience and skills in computerized system troubleshooting, fault analysis using digital data logger and related software.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Windows OS, IT, TCP, IP network, VLAN and network security.
  • Understanding of Functional Safety standards, experience in working with safety PLC & I/O systems and devices.
