Job Description

Axon seeks a Corporate Counsel (Federal) to support its Federal team. Responsibilities include handling transactional legal matters, advising on regulatory and compliance initiatives, researching legal rights and duties, serving as a subject matter expert on federal government contracting (FAR), improving compliance policies and procedures, coordinating with cross-functional teams (Sales, Product, Supply Chain, Finance, People Operations), developing and maintaining contract lifecycle management systems, advising on federal regulatory compliance, researching corporate governance, supporting state and local contracting, and ensuring compliance with federal data controls (CUI and security clearances). This role reports to the Deputy General Counsel and requires strong transactional, compliance, and federal contracting experience.
Must have:
  • 7+ years federal corporate/transactional experience
  • FAR expertise and drafting/negotiating federal contracts
  • Experience with multiple award contracting (GSA schedules)
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
Good to have:
  • Experience with ITAR and export control compliance
  • Experience with CUI and relevant security clearances

Your Impact
As Axon's Corporate Counsel (Federal), you will report directly to our Assistant General Counsel and serve as an in-house attorney primarily supporting Axon's Federal team. As a legal partner to business teammates, you will handle transactional legal matters and projects, advise and drive regulatory and compliance initiatives, and research and advise on legal rights and duties as they relate to Axon's Federal business.

What You'll Do
Location: Boston, MA
Reports to: Deputy General Counsel

  • Serve as primary Legal support to Axon’s Federal team in its pursuit of supporting and growing Axon’s U.S. federal business
  • Serve as Axon’s subject matter expert for federal government contracting matters and related compliance requirements
  • Improve, develop, and execute Axon’s policies, processes, and procedures for compliance with federal contracting requirements
  • Coordinate cross-functionally across Axon with Sales, Product, Supply Chain, Finance, and People Operations to support the company’s growth in federal markets
  • Support development, implementation, and maintenance of contract lifecycle management system
  • Advise on federal regulatory compliance for business organizations
  • Research and advise on corporate governance practices, including federal contractual compliance
  • Perform general legal research and analyze associated impact on the company
  • Support state and local contracting efforts as needed
  • Support and help maintain Axon’s compliance with federal data controls, including CUI and relevant security clearances

What You Bring

  • Minimum of 7 years of corporate, transactional, and compliance experience in the federal space
  • Proven experience drafting and negotiating transactions with the federal government
  • Deep understanding and experience with the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)
  • Understanding of and experience with multiple award contracting, including Federal GSA schedule management considerations (e.g. preparing Commercial Sales Practices submissions, IFF reporting, subsequent GSA schedule requirements monitoring)
  • Experience with export control compliance of controlled technology, including experience with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) is preferred
  • Administrative and managerial skills and ability
  • Excellent research, writing, analytical, negotiation, communication, and presentation skills
  • High attention to detail, self-starter, and ability to work independently
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative environment
  • Success working as part of a team and ability to handle multiple projects and assignments
  • Intellectual horsepower, bias for action, pass-first attitude
  • JD from an accredited law school with outstanding academic credentials
  • Admission to a State Bar within the United States

The Pay: Axon is a total compensation company, meaning compensation is made up of base pay, bonus, and stock awards. The starting base pay for this role is between USD 148,800 in the lowest geographic market and USD 238,080 in the highest geographic market. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, geographic market, and often a combination of all these factors.
