Job Description

The Data Scientist will develop machine learning models to detect and prevent account takeover, credential stuffing, and other fraud. Responsibilities include analyzing fraudulent behavior, designing A/B tests, enhancing real-time detection systems, collaborating with engineering and product teams, monitoring security metrics, and staying current on emerging threats. The role involves working with large-scale machine learning, real-time security risk mitigation, and safeguarding user accounts within PlayStation's digital ecosystem. The ideal candidate will have experience in data science, security analytics, or fraud detection, proficiency in Python and SQL, and strong communication skills.
Must have:
  • Develop ML models for fraud detection

  • Proficient in Python (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn) and SQL
  • Experience with anomaly detection and supervised/unsupervised learning

Our Store Publishing Operations & Commerce (SPOC) team is responsible for ensuring trust, security, and seamless transactions across PlayStation’s digital store. We provide data-driven solutions to support platform services, customer experience, and risk management. By using advanced analytics and machine learning, we focus on detecting unauthorized access attempts and safeguarding user identities, while optimizing the balance between security and user experience.

About the Role

For over five years, SIE has been operating an innovative risk platform powered by machine learning to safeguard the expansive PlayStation® Network ecosystem. Our Data Science team plays a critical role in protecting account integrity, detecting unauthorized access, and enhancing authentication security across PlayStation’s digital ecosystem.

We’re looking for a Data Scientist to develop insights, design experiments, and enhance risk modeling strategies in collaboration with engineering, product, and risk teams. If you’re passionate about large-scale machine learning, real-time security risk mitigation, and safeguarding user accounts, we’d love to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop machine learning models to detect and prevent account takeover, credential stuffing, and other forms of fraud.
  • Analyze patterns of fraudulent behavior and extract actionable insights to enhance account security strategies.
  • Design and implement A/B tests to evaluate the effectiveness of security interventions and friction-based authentication measures.
  • Enhance real-time detection systems to identify anomalous login behaviors and unauthorized access attempts.
  • Collaborate with product, risk, and engineering teams to integrate security models into PlayStation’s ecosystem.
  • Monitor and evaluate security metrics, ensuring continuous improvement of fraud detection performance.
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging security threats and incorporate cutting-edge techniques into fraud prevention models.

Requirements:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, etc.).
  • 3+ years of experience in data science, security analytics, or fraud detection.
  • Strong proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn) and SQL.
  • Experience with anomaly detection, supervised/unsupervised learning, and behavioral analytics.
  • Familiarity with A/B testing and causal inference to assess security features' impact.
  • Excellent communication skills to translate data insights into actionable security improvements.

Bonus:

  • Experience with graph-based fraud detection, adversarial ML, or identity verification models.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$140,600 - $210,800 USD
