Summary

Elsewhere Entertainment is seeking a Director, Art (Lighting) to join the development of a new IP. This role will be responsible for leading a team of lighting artists to deliver epic visual content for world-class player experiences. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability in the games industry working in a lighting capacity, and/or film or equivalent experience. They will also possess in-depth understanding of game engines, pipelines, and processes. Responsibilities include collaborating with Creative Directors, Designers, Engineers, Artists, Producers, and Animators; defining team goals, action plans, and schedules; leading, tasking, mentoring and conducting one-on-one meetings with Lighting Artists; championing standard processes and advocating towards streamlining tools and processes; and contributing creative and original ideas towards all aspects of game production and development.
Must have:
  • Demonstrated ability in lighting for games or film
  • Strong affinity for CGI lighting techniques, color theory, and post-process effects
  • In-depth understanding of game engines, pipelines, and processes
  • Proficient in Radiant
  • Experience leading and mentoring teams
  • Ability to collaborate and thrive in a creative team environment
Good to have:
  • At least 1 shipped title as a Lead Lighting Artist
  • Experience in a secondary area such as texturing, modeling, scripting, animation, or vfx
  • Enjoyment of playing a variety of video game genres and titles

Job Description:

Elsewhere Entertainment is looking for a Director, Art (Lighting) to join the development of a new IP.   
 
Feed your creativity while collaborating with our team of highly-skilled developers to build something innovative, exhilarating, and expansively entertaining! 
 
As a member of the Art department, you’ll inspire, mentor, and lead a team of high-caliber lighting artists to use color and composition to evoke captivating visuals. You’ll not only manage the team through challenge and change, but also build up individuals into highly engaged, efficient, and effective teammates. Above all, we're seeking an innovative and dedicated leader to help tell our story.   

 

You’ll help take the studio and our game from great to even better—with a focus on inclusivity, mutual respect (for ourselves and our players), thoughtfulness, empathy, professionalism, and collaboration.  

 
You’ll help us by 

  • Collaborate with Creative Directors, Designers, Engineers, Artists, Producers, and Animators to deliver epic visual content for world-class player experiences. 

  • Be a proactive self-starter that can independently implement high-level direction. 

  • Work in Radiant to augment play-spaces with lighting that supports game and story objectives. 

  • Define team goals, action plans, and schedules for the project. 

  • Lead, task, mentor and conduct one-to-one meetings with your Lighting Artists. 

  • Champion standard processes and advocate towards streamlining tools and processes. 

  • Contribute creative and original ideas towards all aspects of game production and development. 

You’re awesome because you have 

  • Demonstrated ability in the games industry working in a lighting capacity, and/or film or equivalent experience. 

  • Strong affinity for CGI lighting techniques, color theory, and post-process effects for console hardware (Xbox, PS, PC). 

  • Possesses in-depth understanding of game engines, pipelines, and processes. 

  • Proven track record thriving in an exciting and often ambiguous environment. 

  • Strong understanding of in-game lighting with ability to clearly discuss modern trends. 

  • Inspiring reel demonstrating a focus and dedication to realistic lighting techniques and knowledge.  

  • The ability to collaborate and thrive as part of a creative team 

  • Creativity in problem solving and a positive, respectful team-first attitude 

  • Organization methods and the capability to meet deadlines 

  • Comfort with self-critique and accepting outside feedback 

 

Bonus points for 

  • At least 1 shipped title as a Lead Lighting Artist.   

  • Experience in a secondary area such as texturing, modeling, scripting, animation, or vfx a plus. 

  • Enjoyment of playing a variety of video game genres and titles
