Summary

Starbreeze seeks an experienced Game Designer for a PAYDAY/PUBG collaboration. As one of two designers, you'll be a generalist contributing to various systems (player elements, difficulty, enemy AI). Responsibilities include designing, developing, and balancing game systems; collaborating with other teams; taking designs through the full development cycle; using metrics and feedback for improvement; and potentially leading small teams. The role requires 5+ years of generalist game design experience, including expertise in player systems, meta, difficulty, classes, AI, and UX, along with experience leading small teams and strong documentation skills. The position is hybrid, requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in the Stockholm office.

We are hiring an Experienced Game Designer to join our PAYDAY/PUBG collaboration project. As one of only two Designers on the project, we are looking for a generalist in this role that is happy to support across a variety of systems from player elements, to difficulty and enemy AI.

As an Experienced member of the team, you are expected to have a focus on task execution under minimal guidance and be able to adapt to meet different and changing situations. You should be able to take initiative and have a drive to take on more extensive responsibilities and support cross discipline, as well as, on occasion, lead the work of small/feature teams.

Please note, this role must be based in Stockholm with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office.


Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and balance a variety of the following systems:
    • Player (gunplay, inventory, movement)

    • Meta (unlocks, progression)

    • Difficulty

    • Classes

    • AI

    • UX

  • Work closely with other teams to prototype and implement features.

  • Take designs through a full development cycle from concept to release.

  • Design, develop and balance a wide variety of elements such as AI, Meta, and similar systems.

  • Use metrics, player feedback, and a multitude of diverse analytics to improve and refine the design.


Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience as a generalist Game Designer, including experience with multiple of the following:
    • Player (gunplay, inventory, movement)

    • Meta (unlocks, progression)

    • Difficulty

    • Classes

    • AI

    • UX

  • Experience as a generalist Game Designer for at least one full game development cycle, from pre-production to post-release, preferably on an action game.

  • Experience leading small/feature teams in short-term projects.

  • Strong design documentation skills.

  • Enjoys working with hands-on prototypes, documentation and brainstorming.

  • Effective and productive in communicating with colleagues in a constructive and collaborative way.


Interview process:

  1. 30m introductory Google Meet call with a member of our Talent Acquisition team

  2. 1h Google Meet call with our Studio Design Director

  3. 1h onsite meeting (for those that are local) or Google Meet call with two other members of the project team
