Job Description

We are looking to hire a Senior Character Artist to join the Project Baxter team. The role involves leading the creation and development of player and enemy assets and contributing to the content pipeline. As a senior member, you will guide less experienced colleagues and represent the Character team in cross-departmental discussions. This is a full-time position located in Stockholm. The responsibilities include modeling, texturing, and implementing characters, working with shaders, following art direction, participating in design choices, mentoring junior talent, and maintaining the 3D asset pipeline. The job requires extensive experience in character art within games, mentoring experience, and proficiency in relevant software.
Good To Have:
  • Experience working with Unreal Engine 4 and/or 5.
  • Experience working with Substance Designer.
  • An interest in a variety of different game genres.
Must Have:
  • Extensive experience working as a Character Artist in games with multiple AA+ releases.
  • Experience in a Senior role, mentoring and guiding colleagues.
  • Experience working with Maya, Z-brush, Photoshop, and Substance Painter.
  • A great sense of anatomy, scale, proportions, silhouettes, materials, color, and light.
  • Experience working with Normal Mapped assets, shaders, pipelines, and PBR workflows.
  • Knowledge and interest in both technical setups and mechanical functions.
  • Knowledge of asset creation, in-game models, efficient UV layouts, LODs and character colliders.
  • Good understanding of customization systems, both in their technical setup and asset authoring.
  • Fluent in English with good communication skills.

We are looking to hire a Senior Character Artist to join our Project Baxter team. You will be responsible for leading the creation and development of player and enemy assets, as well as contributing to the further development of the structure and setup of our content pipeline.

As a Senior member of our team, you will be expected to contribute at a more advanced level, whilst also guiding and mentoring less experienced colleagues. You will be the voice of the Character team and collaborate with peers and other departments to achieve optimal outcomes and solutions, and bring the Character team’s perspective into cross-departmental discussions.

Please note that this is a permanent position located full time at our Stockholm office.


Project Baxter is a cooperative urban crawl through a reactive Dungeons & Dragons®-world, inspired by our love of tabletop RPGs and utilizing procedural tools to enhance emergent gameplay in an endlessly replayable setting. Project Baxter is currently in development in Unreal Engine 5 and is set to launch on all major platforms in 2026.


Responsibilities:

  • Modeling, texturing, and implementation of stylized in-game characters & creatures;
  • Working with shaders and content setup;
  • Being able to follow references, concepts, and art direction while also having the initiative to take the work further independently;
  • Identifying functional and technical aspects of real-life assets and translating them into stylization;
  • Participate in design choices and communicate with peers, managers, and vendors;
  • Work closely with the team and mentor junior talent, to ensure that quality is consistent and cohesive;
  • Determining the logical split of character mesh parts for optimal functionality in Character Customizer Editors;
  • Coordinating with other departments, such as Design and Animation, around any possible dependencies;
  • Maintaining and evolving our 3D asset pipeline;
  • Creating and maintaining documentation, as needed.


Requirements:

  • Extensive experience working as a Character Artist within games, with multiple AA+ releases;
  • Experience in a Senior role, or equivalent, mentoring and guiding less experienced colleagues;
  • Experience working with Maya, Z-brush, Photoshop, and Substance Painter;
  • A great sense of anatomy, scale, proportions, stylized silhouettes, materials, color, and light;
  • Experience working with Normal Mapped assets, shaders, pipelines, and PBR workflows;
  • Knowledge and interest in both technical setups and mechanical functions;
  • Knowledge of asset creation, in-game models, efficient UV layouts, LODs and character capsule colliders;
  • Great understanding of real-time graphics with proven experience in creating stylized-looking assets;
  • Good understanding of customization systems, both in their technical setup and asset authoring;
  • Fluent in English with good communication skills, both verbally and in writing.


Nice to have:

  • Experience working with Unreal Engine 4 and/or 5;
  • Experience working with Substance Designer;
  • An interest in a variety of different game genres.


Interview process:

  • 30-minute introductory video call with a member of our Talent Acquisition team
  • 1 hour interview with a Senior Artist and Art Producer
  • 1 hour interview with our Project Art Director and Studio Art Director
