Job Description

The Character Artist will collaborate with the character art team to develop portraits, creatures, modular outfits, and armor for a new project, to be used in gameplay, cinematics, and marketing materials. Responsibilities include creating characters and armor based on concept art, collaborating with the Art Director, building clean topology, giving and receiving feedback, problem-solving, monitoring progress, and documenting tools and production pipelines. They must work well in a team and take ownership of problems.
Must have:
  • Experience in a Character Art position with a shipped game title.
  • Ability to create believable high/low-poly characters and textures.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and form, with attention to detail.
  • Strong skills in organic and hard-surface modeling.
  • Knowledge of major 3D software packages (Maya/Max, Zbrush).
Good to have:
  • Experience setting up characters in Unity
  • Character animation skills
  • Texturing skills (mapping geometry, UV manipulation, texture adjustments)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • An avid gamer and love of Sci-Fi.

NELSON, BC / ART / CONTRACT

Icefall Interactive is looking for a passionate character artist to join our team! The Character Artist will collaborate with the character art team to develop portraits, creatures, modular outfits and armour for an new project, to be used in gameplay, cinematics, and marketing materials.

Responsibilities

  • Create characters, creatures, and armour based on concept art or reference photos.
  • Collaborate with the Art Director and concept artists to set the visual style and quality bar.
  • Build clean topology with high consideration for animation.
  • Give and receive feedback from Concept and other Character Artists while providing guidance and support to more junior team members.
  • Problem solve and drive tools and tech development that will enable us to achieve our signature look in the engine 
  • Monitor deliverable progress, manage assigned scope and requested changes, meet commitments, follow up and be on time
  • Able to work with minimum supervision, work well in a small team and take ownership for problems
  • Document tools and production pipelines that are clear and understandable

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a Character Art position, ideally with a shipped game title.
  • Ability to create believable characters that are full of life and personality in high-poly and low-poly models as well as textures.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and form, with special attention to photo-realistic heads and hair.
  • Strong skills with organic modelling (i.e. human faces, clothing, realistic creatures) and hard-surface modelling (i.e. armour and props).
  • Knowledge of major 3D software packages (such as Maya / Max and Zbrush. Expertise with Marvellous Designer and xGen would be advantageous)
  • Identifying technical and developmental risks and obstacles while creating innovative solutions to overcome them while promoting new and innovative ways of working.
