About the job

An independent (student) film production seeks a talented, professional VFX artist who loves working with small indie projects on shoestring budgets to complete smoke compositing for an indie short. You work with indie filmmakers because you are passionate about the work.

Responsibilities

You will complete less than 2 minutes of tracked, smoke compositing. 2D smoke compositing will match native fog and seamlessly blend with the shots to ensure the result feels authentic to the scene. Experience with 3D rotoscoping is ideal. Color correction/grading knowledge may be helpful.

Scope

Less than 2 minutes of footage (10-12 takes split into less than 30 shots within the final timeline).

Complexity

  • Shaky camera movement.
  • Smoke compositing will accompany native fog.
  • Dark clothing, skin, and lighting.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a strong creative voice and be open to collaboration with the director and editor.
  • Experience with 3D rotoscoping is ideal.
  • Color correction/grading knowledge may be helpful.
  • Be skilled in tracking smoke to look native to the shots.
  • Understand Adobe and DaVinci Resolve workflows (our editor used Adobe, and the colorist will work in Resolve).
  • Be excited about working with independent filmmakers on a shoestring budget.
  • Must be based in Los Angeles County.
  • Work independently (VFX artists billing through a VFX production house will not be considered).
  • Deliver the final work by the end of September.

Pay

Negotiable, within a range.

How to Apply:

Please send your resume and a link to your smoke compositing work. Also, please confirm your ability/availability to complete the project by the end of September.

All eligible candidates will receive an email from Danielle at admin@tranceending.com.

If you’re passionate about VFX, love creative collaboration, and enjoy working with small indie teams, let’s create something amazing together!
