As a Lead Software Engineer - Front End, you'll be part of the Living Room Devices team, building Direct-to-Consumer client apps (Disney+, Star+, ESPN, Hulu) for various browser-based devices and TVs. Responsibilities include rapid prototyping and implementing scalable media applications using TypeScript, JavaScript, and other web technologies; collaborating with UX designers and product managers; building and delivering modern media applications to Samsung, LG, and other streaming devices; using data and experimentation to improve user experience; and mentoring junior engineers. You'll work on sophisticated user interfaces within a large codebase, directly impacting millions of global consumers.
Must have:
  • 7+ years front-end experience (JavaScript, TypeScript)
  • Experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, Preact/React, Redux
  • Strong understanding of CS fundamentals
  • Building sophisticated UIs in large codebases
  • Leadership and problem-solving skills
Good to have:
  • Experience with GitHub, Jenkins, Webpack, AWS, Confluence, JIRA
  • Experience with web services
  • Experience developing for Samsung, LG devices
  • Scrum methodology experience

You’ll be part of the team that builds our Direct-to-Consumer client apps, such as Disney+, Star+, ESPN and Hulu on a wide range of devices that run on browser and JavaScript technologies.

We’re seeking a Senior Software Engineer who will be an outstanding addition to our JavaScript browser-based devices team. The right person for this role is highly motivated, collaborative, and technical, with the ability to coordinate across teams and empower both themselves and others in striving for and achieving excellence. Everything we do directly affects millions of global consumers, their experience with our service, and impacts our business.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Rapidly prototype and implement scalable, reliable, and maintainable media applications using TypeScript, JavaScript, and other web development technologies. 
  • Work closely with UX designers, product managers, and engineering leadership to build best-of-class, delightful streaming experiences. 
  • Collaborate with other developers to build, review, and deliver modern media applications to Samsung, LG, and other streaming-media devices. 
  • Use data and experimentation to reinforce the value of new product functionality, ensure that we are providing the best experience possible for our viewers, and continuously improve our applications. 
  • Provide mentorship to junior software engineers

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in front-end application development with proficiency in writing optimized JavaScript (ES5 &ES6) and TypeScript with a low memory footprint. 
  • Leadership, the ability to identify problems and drive towards solutions, and an eagerness to learn and teach new technologies & solve novel problems. 
  • Experience building browser-based applications using TypeScript, JavaScript, Preact/React and Redux. 
  • A deep understanding of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, etc.). 
  • Experience developing sophisticated user interfaces in a large and organized codebase. 
  • Work samples demonstrating experience in building great user interfaces. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with our common development tools such as: GitHub, Jenkins, Webpack, AWS, Confluence, JIRA. 
  • Experience building applications backed by web-services is a plus. 
    Experience developing for Samsung, LG, or similar devices is also a plus. 
  • Strong experience with Scrum methodology

Required Education  

  • BS Computer Science or related technical discipline or its equivalent

The hiring range for this position in Seattle, Washington and New York City is $156,300 - $209,600 per year and in Bristol, Connecticut, Santa Monica, California and Glendale, California is $149,300 - $200,200 per year and in San Francisco, California is $163,500 - $219,200 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
